6월 28, 2025, Monte Albergian Summit
At just over 3,000 meters above sea level, Monte Albergian is by no means the highest in the so-called "Cottian Alps," but it still offers an impressive panorama. Like many other mountains, it is crowned with a summit cross. The longitudinal and transverse beams are formed by a metal frame, which has been reinforced with X-shaped struts in the interstices for stability. A circle or ring is also attached around the intersection of the two beams. It's not a huge cross (at what I estimate to be 3 to 3.5 meters high), but it sits majestically on the mountain summit and is clearly visible.

The panoramic view is worth the climb, which is very long and challenging, with a very steep final stretch.

Beautiful modern bivouac with 6 beds. The climb at the end is very steep and tiring, but it is worth climbing up here. It is located just below the Dormillouse peak. During my visit in August 2024 I did not see any mattresses, so it is advisable to bring a sleeping bag, and there is no water, not even a small stream nearby, so rooms already stocked with drinks if you want to stay a long time.

Tallest military fort in Europe. The climb is long and tiring and very crowded in the months of July-August but once at the top every effort is rewarded

A hill that goes up a forest road, sometimes rocky, goes up through the heart of the Great Forest in the Parco Naturale della Gran Bosco di Salbertrand (Natural Park of the Great Forest of Salbertrand) to the Col Blegier (pass). Because it is a forest road, the trail is not technically difficult, but there is 640 m (2,100 ft) of climbing in this 7.7 km

At just over 3,000 meters above sea level, Monte ALBERGIAN is by no means the largest in the so-called "Cottian Alps", but still offers an impressive panorama. Like many other mountains, it is crowned with a summit cross. The longitudinal and cross beams are formed by a metal frame, which has been reinforced by x-shaped struts in the interior spaces for stability. An additional circle or ring is attached around the intersection of both bars. It's not a huge cross (at 3 to 3.5 meters high, I estimate), but it sits majestically on the mountain peak and is clearly visible.

The Albergian, located between Val Chisone and Valle di Massello, offers a spectacular panorama and a challenging but rewarding ride. The peak, visible from across the valley, is worth the climb. It is essential to plan carefully with the weather in mind, which can change rapidly, compromising visibility.

Col Basset is located along the ridge that separates the Susa and Chisone valleys. The peak is located approximately 2,400 meters above sea level and can only be reached via a dirt road that can be traveled with gravel bikes or mountain bikes. The landscape is typical of the Alpine environment: alpine meadows that fade towards the highest peaks into rocks and scree.

Good morning everyone! Is the bivouac always open or do you have to ask someone for the keys? A thousand thanks

The fortress in the clouds. An incredible building in an incredible place. The ascent by MTB is (was) feasible by pedaling to the French border but then the mule track becomes in bad condition at times and it was necessary to push. A lot of effort but worth it...

Very clean, warm, functional and original. Suitable for 6 hikers. The orientation of the windows is not necessarily optimal to take advantage of the scenery.

After an epic 4-hour hike, the well-deserved reward is to reach the summit of Chaberton, and enjoy the priceless panoramic view over the entire Alps. On this hot Sunday in July, hundreds and hundreds of people on the paths, so much so that it seemed to be in a procession.

Until 1947 Mont Chaberton was in Italy, located in the municipality of Cesana Torinese. In 1883 Italy joined the Triple Alliance and started strengthening its defences against France. Between 1898 and 1910 Italian troops built an artillery battery on the summit that pointed towards France, in particular at the town of Briançon, and the pass to Italy over the Col de Montgenèvre. A road was built to the summit from the village of Fénils in the Susa Valley by soldiers and engineers led by Major Engineer Luigi Pollari Maglietta. They flattened the summit by about 6 metres to provide a surface for the eight towers. Their height of 12 metres was designed to overcome the highest snowfall recorded. Each emplacement was manned by seven men, who were protected by a relatively lightly armoured dome because the battery was thought to be out of reach of conventional artillery. Eight 149mm guns were mounted in the individual masonry towers. See Wikipedia for more details...amazing the history!!!
