There used to be a sawmill, a mill and a farm in the Saußmühle. A few years later the mill and the farm were abandoned and an inn was built. The restaurant business had many successful years.

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul is also called the "Cathedral of the Bavarian Forest" or "Bavarian Forest Cathedral" because of its size (64 m long, 34 m wide, 67 m tower height) and is one of the largest religious buildings in the Diocese of Passau. It was built in the neo-Gothic style from 1857 to 1861 according to plans by Leonhard Schmidtner (1800–1873) by the master builder Andreas Schwarzenberger (1816–1877) from Passau.
