Laufenburg was first documented in 1173, when the monastery in Säckingen granted the town as a fief to the Habsburgs. The first documented mention of Loufenberc dates back to 1207; the place name means "mountain near the waterfall, near the whirlpool, near the rapids" (Wikipedia).

Laufenburg is a small but beautifully preserved town right on the Rhine. There isn't a huge amount to see, but what there is is lovely.

It is best to visit the nature park during the warmer months between May and October, but please pay attention to local regulations and respect the protected area.

The Upper Gate in Waldshut-Tiengen is an impressive historic city gate dating back to the 13th century. From here, you have a magnificent view of the city and the Rhine. The gate is located directly on Kaiserstraße and is easily accessible by bike.

Easily accessible, even from the nearby bus stop or the parking areas at Viehmarktplatz. The menu includes Italian dishes, Mexican tostadas, vegetarian dishes, and refreshing ice cream. The homemade cocktails and the Saltimbocca alla Romana are highly recommended. Opening daily (except Tuesday) makes the restaurant a flexible stop for cyclists exploring the Upper Rhine.

On site, you will find a spectacular 14-meter-high waterfall in an impressive granite basin, particularly impressive when the water flow is high or in winter with ice formations.
