This small chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, specifically under the patronage of "Maria Dolorosa," commonly known in German as the "Sorrowful Madonna." In corresponding depictions, the Virgin Mary is usually surrounded by seven swords piercing her body or heart. The biblical origin for this can be found in the Gospel of Luke, where Simeon says to Mary about her son Jesus Christ: "Look, this child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and he will be a sign that will be spoken against, and a sword will pierce your own soul..." (Luke 2:34-35)

In my opinion one of the most beautiful villages in Monferrato, surrounded by hazelnut groves, vineyards and lavender fields.

This stretch of road offers views of the typical Monferrato landscapes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a pleasant cycle ride.

The German-language television series "Treasures of the World - Heritage of Humanity" - which I highly recommend - is dedicated to short film clips featuring UNESCO World Heritage sites from all continents and eras. This includes the "Sacri Monti" in northern Italy (there are eight of these "Sacred Mountains" in Piedmont, and a ninth in Lombardy), which are presented to culture-loving viewers in a 15-minute segment.
