Built in 1300, the castle became a fortress at the hands of the Visconti of Milan. Property of the Balbis of Genoa since the 17th century, it was transformed into a residence by them at the end of the 19th century. Today it is owned by Count Niccolò Calvi di Bergolo who opened it to the public since 1972 with its art workshops, guided tours inside the castle and the educational farm. Among its towers, battlements, moats and stables, our period residence hosts events of all kinds: weddings, historical re-enactments, rallies, concerts, art exhibitions, events for the whole family.

The Paleologa Tower of San Salvatore Monferrato was built in 1413 by the Marquis Teodoro Paleologo del Monferrato. It was part of the defense and sighting system of the Marquisate of Monferrato. The tower, restored in the 1930s, is 24 meters high. From the hill of the tower, 257 meters high, you can enjoy a splendid view over the entire Alps and most of the Monferrato. It has a large breach on the south-east side which is located in the point where, in ancient times, there was the entrance portal. In the first war of independence the tower was used by the Sardinian army as an observation point for the first military operations. Next to the tower there is a low building, once entirely underground, which was used as a cistern for collecting rainwater.
