This is a nice place to stop and admire the view. The mountains are pleasant when they are green in the summer, but also covered in snow in the winter.

It is located on the southern slope of the Pistoia mountains, in a panoramic position, at the center of the head of the Nievole valley, facing Montecatini Terme and Monsummano Terme; it is located at an altitude of m. 750 above sea level, therefore intermediate between the Valdinievole plain and the highest peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Path feasible in both directions with both a hardtail and full mtb, very bumpy in the first section up to the Campania crossroads that leads to Geri houses, the second section that leads to the top of the Pian di GIuliano is quieter, many ups / downs. It happens very rarely to see the ground of the whole route completely dry, not recommended in winter, many puddles and the ground freezes easily.

Montecatini alto has three towers. One tower is part of the remains of the castle, the second is the clock tower and the last is in front of the monastery of Santa Maria a Ripa (century XVI). This monastery is the only one that has been inhabited by the Benedictine nuns since 1861. The old Augustinian monastery of Santa Margherita now houses a rest home.

An uphill stretch from Nievole with stretches at 10/12%, a fairly narrow road, but with little traffic from motor vehicles, spectacular shade for almost all the 10 km of ascent immersed in the dense forest.

Beautiful view of the Reno Valley on one side and the Ombrone Pistoiese Valley on the other. You can also get there with a dirt track suitable also for gravel from Le Piastre, with MTB you can continue on a dirt road towards Monte Pidocchina and the ridge between the Reno Valley and the Limentra di Sambuca up to Sambuca Pistoiese.
