Easy route for a day trip… more suitable for a jog than a bike ride… I use it for transfers on routes that start from Colle di Val d’Elsa

An idyllic monastery and a nice roadside bar make this a great starting point for hikes in the area—but be careful when choosing your route, as many are designated hiking trails, but are also gravel roads.

The “Pista Ciclo Pedonale Colle - Poggibonsi” is a cycling and walking path that connects the towns of Colle di Val d'Elsa and Poggibonsi in the Tuscany region. The trail is approximately 6.3 kilometers long and was opened in 2011. It follows the route of an old railway line that was decommissioned in 1987. The path offers beautiful views of the Tuscan landscape and is almost completely surrounded by greenery.

The Collegiata Di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Duomo di San Gimignano, is an important church in San Gimignano. Consecrated in 1148, this church is known for its important cycles of Renaissance frescoes by artists such as Domenico Ghirlandaio, Benozzo Gozzoli, Taddeo di Bartolo, Lippo Memmi and Bartolo di Fredi. Originally built in the 10th century, the church grew in importance during the early 12th century due to its location on the pilgrimage route to Rome, the Via Francigena. The interior of the church is famous for its frescoes, depicting scenes from both the Old and New Testaments.

In the Elsa Valley, the fifteen feudal towers of San Gimignano beckon to the sky as if to a loved one. From the Porta San Giovanni to the Piazza della Cisterna, walkers wonder if they have been taken back to the Middle Ages in a time machine. Imagine the great stone structures, where there once stood 72, adorned with banners of three fabrics, painted with saffron as they could only do here! San Gemignano, a bit of a victim of its own success, is always teeming with tourists, but the magic remains nevertheless.
