Starting from Florence, the climb presents few difficulties and is pleasant. The climb to Fiesole is the toughest part, but it's less than four kilometers with an average gradient of 5% and a peak of 8%. After passing the Fiesole square, there are about 10 kilometers of road, mostly uphill but with a fairly easy gradient, and the view that opens up over the valley makes the effort worthwhile. At the intersection of roads that we Florentines call the "four roads," you can turn right, take the final ramp and descend into the beautiful Mugello valley, but in this case I continued straight to the village of Bivigliano. The road isn't long but includes a short 11% climb, fortunately very brief. In Bivigliano, there are refreshments and a public fountain in the square.

This monument is situated within the scenic natural reserve of Monte Ceceri in Fiesole, an area closely associated with Leonardo's early experiments and studies. Leonardo da Vinci is celebrated here with a stone engraving in Piazzale Leonardo, which references his famous work on the flight of birds. This location is historically significant as it is believed to be the testing ground for his flying machine, the "Grande Nibbio." The panoramic views from this spot not only offer a glimpse into Leonardo's life but also provide breathtaking vistas over Florence and the surrounding countryside. Visitors can follow the CAI path 7, starting from the Cave di Maiano, leading to this historically rich piazza. The walk through the nature reserve, past historical quarries, and up to Piazzale Leonardo is a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a must-visit for those exploring the Via degli Dei.

Poggio Pratone is a breathtaking spot along the route of the Via degli Dei. The panoramic view from the top of the hill is simply stunning, with the possibility to admire the Tuscan countryside and the surrounding hills. The nature around the hill is wild and unspoiled, with well-maintained paths that allow you to explore the area. The top of the hill is also the perfect spot for a picnic or a relaxing break. Poggio Pratone is a must-see destination for those interested in nature, hiking, and beautiful landscapes. The walk up the hill can be challenging for some but the view from the top is definitely worth the effort. It's also a great spot for photography enthusiasts. Overall, Poggio Pratone is a hidden gem on the Via degli Dei that should not be missed.

Abbey founded in 1038 by Giovanni Gualberto, from an illustrious Florentine family, which became the mother house of the Order of the same name. It houses several interesting works of art. From 1867-1913 the monastery housed the Royal National Forestry Institute (later moved to Florence). The monastery church is open to visitors and the old pharmacy offers the possibility of purchasing local products, particularly from the neighboring forest.
