Since 1906, the bakery, with its cozy café and original Art Nouveau decor, has been a meeting place in the former weavers' village on Müggelsee. A little later, says owner and master baker Rainer Schwadtke, a baker from Dresden came up with the idea of tempting Berlin's high society with Saxon specialties after a steamboat trip on the lake. The bakery still uses the same recipes today. Schillerlocke (a German 'lock') filled with buttercream, quark doughnuts, nut tarts, Eierschecken (egg cakes), and Christmas stollen are well-known throughout the city. The traditional Dresden mixed bread, however, is called "Preußen Brot" (Prussian Bread). Caraway bread, ham bread, and the "Doppelt Gebacke" (double-baked bread), a crispy rye bread, are more in keeping with Prussian tastes. New to the line is the "Jacxa Bread," made from spelt with corn and thyme. Schwadtke supports the youth work of Friedrichhagen's sports clubs by donating rolls and cakes. The simple hall church (around 1800 probably a plastered brick building in Baroque-Classical style) on the market square (1903–1920: Friedrichsplatz) was succeeded in 1903 by the much larger St. Christopher's Church, due to the significant increase in population. On November 13, 1972, the tower of St. Christopher's Church was destroyed by Hurricane Quimburga. The falling gables killed a 64-year-old woman and tore 25-square-meter holes in the church's roof and vault. To temporarily secure the tower, the spire was secured with steel cables. The spire, which was in danger of collapsing, was demolished three days later and replaced with the gable roof structure that still stands today.
