Currently, the sculpture (as of 02/2026) is no longer there, or not yet back in place.

The rest area is located on a hill and therefore offers a beautiful view over the Würm valley - I am not aware of any sculptures that are directly connected with the rest area.

Looking at the pictures, it appears that the carving has already been replaced once - given its current condition, it would be advisable to do so again.

The name sounds unusual, but its meaning is quite clear. It comes from the Middle High German word "kapfen," meaning to look, especially to look in astonishment or to gawk. The name "Rauher Kapf" thus refers to a hill with a viewpoint and poor or infertile soil. The name must have originated at a time when the hill was cleared and perhaps used as a sheep pasture. Today, this vantage point offers a good view towards Schönaich, the Schönbuch Nature Park, and, in good weather, a view as far as the Swabian Alb.
