Historian Tarcisio Venuti dates its construction to around the 14th-15th century, although the first documentary mention of it dates back to 1533. The building underwent a radical transformation after the earthquakes of 1511 and 1513, inspired by the Slovenian style of the Škofija Loka school, like many other small churches in the area, but with a style unparalleled for the beauty of the statuettes, placed in the keystones and lateral lunettes, with figurative corbels supported by elegant columns. It was further restored in the 18th century; in 1777, Francesco Colussi created the altarpiece with the Nativity in the center and Saints Peter and Paul on the sides. The 17th-century wooden altar has an altarpiece depicting the Virgin Enthroned with Child; At the base, in an oval, is the Adoration of the Magi, painted by Girolamo Ridolfi da Cividale in 1585. A small and charming church in the woods, easily accessible from the Castelmonte Sanctuary village via a forest road. For the more adventurous, it's possible to continue along the CAI trail, which initially requires carrying your mountain bike over rocks, before becoming a cycle path, first S2 for a few hundred meters, and then S1; do not use this trail on wet ground.

Small church dating back to the 15th century (1470), it can only be reached via paths and stands near a centuries-old lime tree. Slovenian architecture underlined by the presbytery introduced by an ogival arch, a networked ceiling of ribs and figured corbels supported by small columns, depicting the Three Kings, the Virgin and Child and St. Anna, interspersed with rosettes in the minor keys. The Three Kings are also depicted in the altarpiece probably created by Pasquale Florigerio of Pordenone in 1540. The altar, however, is of modern workmanship.

The finish site of the nineteenth stage of the 2022 Giro d'Italia, won by Koen Bouwman, the Castelmonte Sanctuary (Stara Gora in Slovenian, meaning "ancient mountain") is located in the village of the same name in the municipality of Prepotto. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, the sanctuary was consecrated in 1744 and is of great importance to Slovenian literature: in the 1490s, the so-called Castelmonte Manuscript (Starogorski rokopis in Slovenian) was written here, one of the oldest surviving documents written in the Slovenian language.
