On a hill stands the cemetery church of St. George, featuring a stork's nest depicted in Merian's engraving of 1644. The nest on the church has become, alongside the town's coat of arms, a second symbol of the town. The church tower is Romanesque, while the church itself is Baroque. The high altar, donated in 1759, and probably also the south side altar, were crafted by H.A. Croneiß. On the wall opposite the entrance, besides the pulpit and a crucifixion group, the "Lourdes Grotto," erected in 1904, is particularly striking. https://www.nabburg.de/tourismus-kultur/auf-einen-blick/sehenswuerdigkeiten/#friedhofskirche-st-georg-mit-strochennest

The medieval town of Nabburg, with its architecture, offers a glimpse into times long past. The historic old town and the almost completely intact town wall, with its Mähntor and Obertor gates, are landmarks of the town's medieval importance. The Dean's Tower, the Old Town Hall, the Citizens' Hospital, the parish church, the Powder Tower, the castle courtyard, the Schmidt House, and the Zehenstadel (tithe barn) are further testaments to the past. It's well worth taking a leisurely stroll through the town. A large part of Nabburg's old town is a listed historical monument. Virtually every building here is worth seeing. A walk through the Lower and Upper Market Squares to the 13th-century Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist, the Gothic Obertor gate, and Nabburg Castle is highly recommended. A beautiful walking path also leads along the town wall outside the town, offering magnificent views of the Naab Valley. https://de.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Nabburg https://www.nabburg.de/tourismus-kultur/auf-einen-blick/sehenswuerdigkeiten/#historische-altstadt

If you're looking for a tasty snack during your trip, you should stop by Münchshöf. They serve delicious ice cream in handy cups, ideal for takeaway. Produced by a local dairy farmer—the supply chain couldn't be shorter ;) Important! Since payment is made on a trust basis using a small cash register, you should bring some small change. The change is limited. However, this means you don't have to worry about opening hours.

In the 1970s and 1980s, a small wooden shelter stood around the spring, which unfortunately fell into disrepair and was eventually removed. For us children, this was something very special, and it taught us the value of these springs. Listening to the gentle rippling of this spring, you could hear the water telling of the great journey ahead: from the spring, it flows in the Forsterbach stream down to Etsdorf, then into the Torstetterbach stream towards Kolhmühle, where the still-young stream undergoes child labor for the first time before it merges into the Fensterbach stream, crossing the first district border from AS to SAD into a municipality to which it lends its name. Largely straightened, with a few meandering stretches, the stream creeps through the flat countryside until it flows into the Naab south of Deiselkühn, near Lindenlohe. Just a few kilometers earlier, the Schwarzach, coming from the east, had shown it the same thing in Schwarzenfeld. The Naab heads south. The Vils joins the river in Kallmünz, and in Mariaort, it finally flows into the Danube, just a few kilometers above the almost 2,000-year-old Upper Palatinate district capital of Regensburg. The Danube continues through Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), south of Belgrade through Romania, and finally into the Black Sea, the Mediterranean, and the Atlantic... Clouds, rain over the Hirmerberg, and out again at the Finsterbach spring!

If you need a short break on your tour of Schmidgaden, this fountain with its covered seating area is a good choice. Although the water is not drinkable, the place offers a pleasant atmosphere to relax. The road is not very busy, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet. Perfect for a short rest in the village to recharge your batteries and enjoy the surroundings.
