The first plans for the construction of a refuge on Pasubio date back to 1907. However, they were not realized until after the First World War, when the Schio section of the CAI began to build a refuge in memory of the soldiers who had fallen on Pasubio. Every Christmas since 1986, the largest bright comet in Italy, and perhaps Europe, has hovered between Mount Cengio and nearby Mount Singìo: 360 meters long, a star with eight 32-meter rays, 166 LED lights... it's visible up to 30 km away! During those days, the Stella Cometa Group's hut serves as a base camp and shelter for volunteers, as well as a reception area for visitors. But the small refuge in the woods is open year-round, available to hikers. It has a curious appearance: from the outside, it resembles a shack assembled from recycled materials; inside, it is cozy, spacious, and equipped with large tables, a fireplace, and a kitchenette. A rudimentary yet ingenious pulley system makes the door self-closing, protecting it from the elements! https://www.gruppostellacometa.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS8XGtxLwbU

Named after General Achille Papa, Gold Medal for military valor who died during the First World War in 1917, the refuge is located at the saddle of the Porte del Pasubio, at 1,928 meters above sea level, on the massif of the same name. Today the Papa refuge is owned by the CAI of Schio and boasts around sixty beds.

Starting point of many paths. For the Civillina, Passo Zovo, Passo Camonda etc etc It can be reached by car but I do not recommend it because the road is unpaved, stony and narrow. Better to leave the car in a nice parking lot further down.

THE CATULLIANA SOURCE AND TRADE FROM FERRUGINOUS WATER In 1801 Giovanni Catullo cultivated “pyrolusite” (a manganese oxide) near the Fonte Civillina refuge, working on ancient excavations and opening new tunnels. Subsequently, knowing the healing properties of the water that flowed from the land he was in charge of, he decided to exploit it commercially. It was a ferruginous-arsenical water and, in 1818, after having carried out the appropriate analyses, the water was considered curative and obtained a license from the Continental Health Authority for sale. In what was called "Fonte Catulliana" works were carried out in order to collect and convey the water that exuded from the rock and direct it into a collection tank which was initially made of wood and clay and later made of stone. In 1888 the source became the property of the municipality of Recoaro, which leased it for a few years. In this period the source of the Civillina was a locality

Perfect place for a picnic – with tables and benches – at the crossroads of several dirt roads dating back to the First World War. The spruce forest (spruce forest) surrounding the small structure is beautiful.
