The first plans for the construction of a refuge on Pasubio date back to 1907. However, they were not realized until after the First World War, when the Schio section of the CAI began to build a refuge in memory of the soldiers who had fallen on Pasubio. Named after General Achille Papa, Gold Medal for military valor who died during the First World War in 1917, the refuge is located at the saddle of the Porte del Pasubio, at 1,928 meters above sea level, on the massif of the same name. Today the Papa refuge is owned by the CAI of Schio and boasts around sixty beds.

Falcipieri or 5 peaks equipped path, is a large ridge crossing that allows you to cross the 5 peaks of Pasubio, Bella Laita, Cuaro monte Forni Alti, Cimone del soglio Rosso, and the top of the observatory and then descend to the Papa refuge. departure and from Bocchetta Campiglia.

The 5 Cime equipped path is superb. Departure from Bocchetta Campiglia, the path immediately starts uphill towards the beautiful Laita, Quarto Forni Alti peak, Passo di Val Fontana d'Oro, Cimone del Soglio Rosso and the top of the observatory, then down to the Rif Papa.

From the Rifugio Achille Papa, the Strada Scarubbi goes back down to the parking lot. The upper section is very spacious and beautiful and you can see the mountain peaks behind which the Stada delle 52 gallery runs.

Great rifugio at the end of the Strada delle 52 gallery. You can also stay overnight here, reservations are welcome. Warm and good food is provided, the bigoli are very tasty.

The Road of 52 Tunnels ( Strada delle 52 Galerie ) was built out of necessity during the First World War as part of the defense after the normal supply route ( Strada delle Scarubbi) was attacked by the Austrians. 52 tunnels were blasted into the rock, an incredible achievement.

At the end of the 52 tunnel is the Rifugio Achille Papa, which has already celebrated its 100th anniversary (1922-2022). Several hiking trails and gravel paths (Strada degli Scarubbi) meet here. The hut has accommodation and you get something warm to eat and drink. Bigoli are highly recommended, even if the food comes on a paper plate.

The Rifugio Generale Achille Papa is a refuge on the upper edge of the Val Canale at 1928 meters. It was built after the First World War and uses buildings from a former Italian barrack camp. Since then it has been rebuilt several times, today the building is quite imposing and renovated according to sustainable criteria. The view up here is pretty breathtaking! Both from the hut, as well as the hut itself. Even the journey through the tunnel that ends here is an experience. In the hut you can strengthen yourself and even stay overnight.
