Anagni is called the city of the Popes because it was the birthplace of four popes: Innocent III, Alexander IV, Gregory IX and Boniface VIII. Full of churches, extravagant houses and noble palaces, it is definitely worth a visit.

Anagni is located on a hill in the Latina valley, in the province of Frosinone 65 kilometers away from Rome. Also known as the "city of slap", Anagni was defined by the German historian Gregorovius "one of the most beautiful terraces in Europe". The foundation of the city dates back to around 3,000 years ago, by populations from Asia Minor and Greece. It is located on a spur of the Ernici Mountains, a strategic position that has allowed it to assume a role of cultural, religious and strategic center of particular importance. The city is embellished with some of the most beautiful medieval architectural complexes in Italy such as the Cathedral, built between 1071 and 1105, whose frescoed crypt is called the "Sistine Chapel of the Middle Ages". The center consists of elegant and austere buildings, bell towers and squares with sober architecture, which at each step evoke some of the most important events in the history of Italy.
