The Furlo Pass (also known as Gola del Furlo) is a gorge located in the Marche region of central Italy. This spectacular gorge is located along the ancient Via Flaminia, near the Candigliano river, a tributary of the Metauro. The Furlo gorge was formed between the Pietralata (889 m) and Paganuccio (976 m) mountains by the erosion of the Candigliano river. It has been included in a State Nature Reserve since 2001 and is often promoted to tourists in the region as the "Grand Canyon of Italy". The Roman emperor Vespasian had a tunnel built here to facilitate passage on the Via Flaminia at the narrowest point of the gorge. Next to it is a similar, but smaller tunnel dating back to Etruscan times. The Roman tunnel has a length of 38.30 meters and a height of 5.95 meters.

2월 11, 2024, Via Flaminia Along the Burano River
This stretch of road follows the route of the ancient Via Flaminia and connects the towns of Cagli and Cantiano through the narrow Burano valley. The road has little traffic thanks to the construction of the new state road that runs parallel. The gorge carved out over time by the watercourse is spectacular and evocative.

Pay attention at the traffic lights: always stop on red to avoid coming face to face with cars coming from the opposite direction (very narrow road)

presence in the gorge of the so-called "Marmitte dei Giganti" or large pots, some of which reach a diameter of three meters, in which, according to popular tradition, the giants usually cook soups based on wild boar and other wild ungulates.

It's simply a one-of-a-kind show. I recommend leaving your bike (maybe tie it up) and go down to the potholes to see them more closely. There is a well-marked, easily walkable path.

Reaching this place from Rimini requires dedication, you have to climb montefiore, tavoleto, urbino. But the sensations experienced upon arrival deserve all the effort! Recommended return from the sea passing through Fano to find the plain!

Impressive gorge on the route of the Via Flaminia. It's best to visit in the morning in summer, when the temperatures are very pleasant.
