Mountain of the Umbria-Marche Apennines of 1525m in height. The origin of the name has two hypotheses, the first, more suggestive, is the one that wants the origin of the name linked to the Roman consul Claudius Nero who would have gathered his legions here before the famous Battle of Metauro (year 207 BC) in which defeated the Carthaginians. A more likely hypothesis links the name of this mountain to the discovery of a statuette of the god Mars, which occurred during the construction works of the RAI broadcasting center on the summit.

Built by Count Ottaviano II Ubaldini on a project by the architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Palazzo Ubaldini with the beautiful loggia of honor, formed by eight columns surmounted by refined Ionic capitals, overlooked by the finely framed windows of the noble floor. At the center of the colonnade is the well or snow cellar: it was used to collect and keep snow almost all year round, for food and for food storage.

From the 'Il Grillo' restaurant, along the SP 257, you follow the Crinale 00 itinerary, with a suggestive panorama which on one side sees the imperious Monte Nerone and on the other the mountains around the upper Tiber valley and Città di Castello. Along the route there is the shrine of the "Madonnina del Tartufaio e del Cacciatore". From there you can connect to the Bocca Serriola pass via a path that leads through the woods to the refuges of the pass. The Madonnina is an icon for cyclists, hikers, hunters, truffle hunters, motocrossers and all those who live and frequent the paths of the upper valley.
