No comments needed, it has to be done... It is worth it for what it represents and also because it is quiet, without traffic.

This refuge lost in the mountains also allows you to prepare a barbecue, although you still have to bring everything you need there.

Renamed "Passo Marco Pantani" in March 2023, the climb of Mount Carpegna was the Pirate's famous training ground. Pantani used to say, and it's a phrase you'll read many times on the asphalt: "Carpegna is enough for me." Going up from the town of the same name, you will encounter writings, statues and many other memories of Pantani. It is also a historic climb for the Giro d'Italia: in 1973 Eddy Merckx won here.

5월 12, 2023, Monte Simoncello
There are steel cables that help the steep ascent, good movement ability is required, there are exposed sections, albeit short, not negligible. The Simoncello is an important mountain in the Apennines, located on the border between Emilia-Romagna (municipality of Pennabilli, in the province of Rimini), Tuscany (municipality of Sestino, in the province of Arezzo) and the Marches (municipality of Carpegna , in the province of Pesaro-Urbino). The top of the mountain falls entirely within the province of Pesaro and Urbino [1]; it is also entirely included in the regional natural park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello. Although the name is a diminutive of the nearby Sasso Simone, the Simoncello is actually higher; in fact, it reaches an altitude of 1,221 meters [2] against the 1,204 of Sasso Simone. The Simoncello forms an intermediate ring in the mountain range that separates the valleys of the Marecchia (north-west) and Foglia (south-east) rivers, a chain that continues southward with the Sasso Simone and which further north also includes Mount Carpegna (1,415 m). Many tributary streams of both the Marecchia and the Foglia are born from the slopes of the Simoncello. (Wikipedia)

One of the most evocative points of this Carpegna area. A point of union between nature and man: a magnificent panorama up to the sea and, a stone's throw away, the top of the mountain. The scenario is joined by an infrastructure such as the chairlift which, in reality, does not disturb the balance

Suggestive to get there by night walk. It is a bivouac. Inside there are cots (wooden boards) that can be used to sleep in. The fireplace doesn't pull much and if you want to cook in there, resign yourself to dusting all your clothes. There are several grills available, a nice table with benches (you are there, a bit cramped even in 8 to eat). The name Fontanelle derives from the source. If looking at the refuge you go down to the right, and follow the path (there is a fence to open), you will arrive at the source, inside a small house with an unlocked door. Inside you will find a tub full of freezing water, which flows continuously. Very fresh. The only problem is that you have to fill the bottle by immersing it in the tub, but it is very clean, you shouldn't take any risks, since there is no human settlement up there (we drank it in 6 and nothing happened to anyone) . Very important: close both the spring door and the bivouac well, after using them, possibly leaving everything a little cleaner than when you arrived! :)

The climb of Cippo di Carpegna with its 6 KM and its average gradient of 10% as well as demanding reminds us in every bend Pantani, and his famous consideration "Carpegna is enough for me"
