A beautiful village perched on Mount Capanne, its tall, colorful houses overlook the sea. The main square offers a splendid panoramic view of the sea and is ideal for a meal. Poggio boasts a characteristic spiral-shaped urban layout, a network of narrow granite-paved streets, concentric with the square in front of the Church of San Niccolò located at the top of the village, from where one can enjoy a splendid view of Marciana and Mount Capanne.

Marciana, whose origins date back to 35 BC, is located on a hill 375 metres above sea level and is one of the oldest towns, rich in historical and archaeological evidence. Under the rule of the Appiani, who chose the place as their residence, it experienced a great boom, starting with the construction of the most protected fortress on the island, which was to serve as a defence for the foundry and mint. The whole town still preserves its ancient medieval character, from the access gates to the narrow, stair-lined streets, decorated with flowers and plants grown by the inhabitants. Located in the western part of the island, Troppolo is part of the Mount Capanne chain and reaches an altitude of 744 metres. In the area surrounding the summit there are the remains of the small church of San Frediano and two pastoral neighborhoods, the caprili del Troppolo. The name, registered since 1820, derives from a particular monzogranite formation that resembles a troppolo, an ancient square tool used for pressing grapes. The sea views from the path are extraordinary.

Mount Capanne, with its 1,019 meters above sea level, is the highest peak on the island of Elba. It can be reached with the characteristic basket route from Marciana, or on foot via paths 101 and 105 from Marciana or Poggio. The walking path includes passages on supported rock protected by metal cables, so it is good to have a minimum level of familiarity with the environment.

Mount Capanne is the highest mountain on the island of Elba and in the entire province of Livorno. Located in the western part of the island, it reaches a height of 1,019 meters above sea level. This beautiful mountain offers not only a magnificent view of the island from its summit, which on clear days reaches as far as Corsica and Sardinia, but also walks through different vegetation zones. From a technical point of view, running here presents no problems. The only two obstacles may be fatigue due to the inclination and crowding. However, the views all along the route are more than worth the effort.

This section of trail is part of the Grande Traversata Elbana. It is made up of laid slabs of rock that make the terrain mostly flat, but it is located on the steep side of the mountain. You enjoy an exceptional panorama of the forest and the sea, a view that is not often seen from the mountains. Running here is spectacular.

Marciana is at the foot of the Monte Capanne massif. A small, tranquil village that is recommended to hike through. Small alleys, beautiful views and one or the other delicacy (including jam) can be found here.
