The Santa Maria del Bosco refuge is easy to reach and is equipped with fresh drinking water, toilets, BBQ sites, firewood, a room always open with a fireplace and wooden bunk beds, camping sites, swings and a football pitch.

With a guide, you can interpret the possible roles of each rock in the ancestors' rites of passage. Spectacular views, including of Mount Etna, not only from the highest rock with its "pool," but also from walking through the fields of ferns (they were a beautiful green in August 2025).

The current Basilica Sanctuary was built recently (1957-1979), but the history surrounding the cult is much older, dating back to the late eighth and early ninth centuries. A ship coming from the East, loaded with goods, including a statue of the Virgin Mary that had escaped iconoclastic persecution, was forced to dock by a violent storm. The sailors were forced to disembark, but the ship remained motionless. So the occupants decided to lighten the load, leaving the chest containing the statue of the Madonna Bruna on shore, among other items. The ship set sail again and continued its journey. Argimusco is a plateau located in Sicily, just north of Etna, approximately on the border between the Nebrodi and Peloritani mountains, and is administratively divided between the municipalities of Montalbano Elicona, Tripi (which stands on the site of ancient Abacaenum) and Roccella Valdemone. The plateau is very panoramic as you can admire Etna, the Aeolian Islands, the curious mountains Rocca Salvatesta and Montagna di Vernà, Capo Tindari, Capo Calavà and Capo Milazzo up close. It is part of the Bosco di Malabotta nature reserve.

The bivouac is certainly among the most beautiful in all of Sicily. Inside there is, among other things, a football field, a bowling green, electrical socket, toilet, as well as having several water points and connection to the Vodafone network. Also noteworthy is the excellent level of cleanliness and maintenance of the entire area. The only flaw for me is that it is located right on the path of the Via Francigena Normanna. I would have preferred a more isolated/further from the trail site.

It is perhaps the most beautiful bivouac ever seen in Sicily. The only flaw for me is that it is located right on the path of the Via Francigena Normanna, I prefer greater isolation.
