**The Lungomare dei Ciclopi: A Cycling Tour between Myth and Nature** If you have decided to extend your stay in the Etna area, an unmissable day trip is the one along the Lungomare dei Ciclopi. This route, which is part of the permanent cycling itinerary *Sicily Divide* from Trapani to Catania, is the last stop to take before concluding the trip. The beauty of the landscape and the charm of the legend will accompany you on a unique experience. The Lungomare dei Ciclopi, which extends from Acitrezza to Catania, takes its name from the famous mythological legend of Ulysses and the Cyclops Polyphemus. It is said that, during his return home, Ulysses landed on these shores where he met the giant Cyclops, monsters with a single eye in the center of their foreheads. After capturing Ulysses and his companions, Polyphemus was blinded thanks to the deception of the Greek hero, who managed to escape with his men. The rocks that emerge from the sea, known as the "Faraglioni", are considered by myths to be the homes of the Cyclops, who threw rocks into the sea to hinder the hero's escape. Cycling along the Lungomare dei Ciclopi is an experience that combines nature, history and legend. The route offers spectacular views of the crystalline sea and Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe. The coastal road allows you to admire the breathtaking landscape, with small seaside villages where you can stop for a break and enjoy typical dishes such as fresh fish and Sicilian granitas. This excursion is also an opportunity to discover the Cyclops natural park, a protected area that is home to a rich biodiversity. The coast, with its Mediterranean vegetation, is ideal for those who love nature and want to immerse themselves in an uncontaminated environment. If you have decided to stay several days in the area, the Lungomare dei Ciclopi is a perfect base for other cycling explorations. Continuing your journey, you will find yourself pedaling through a territory rich in history, traditions and landscapes that will remain etched in your memory. Completing the *Sicily Divide* along the Lungomare dei Ciclopi is much more than a sporting feat: it is a dive into mythology and nature, which will leave you with an indelible memory of Sicily.

A good starting point for exploring Catania is the Piazza Del Duomo. The central square in the heart of the city contains some of Catania's best sights and is also worth visiting early in the morning. Firstly, in the middle of the piazza there is a pretty fountain called Fontana Dell’Elefante. Directly opposite you can't miss the Cathedral of Catania. But the Fontana Dell’Amenano and the Palazzo degli Elefanti are also worth a look. And as befits a real piazza, you will find numerous cafés and restaurants here for an espresso with a view - the perfect place to watch the hustle and bustle and enjoy the Sicilian sun. Piazza Del Duomo is an ideal starting point for a city tour of Catania, from which you can quickly reach many of the main attractions.

Fontana dell’Elefante (Elephant Fountain) In the middle of the Piazza del Duomo stands an elephant carrying a white, Egyptian granite obelisk on its back: the Fontana dell’Elefante. Vaccarini's work, which is well worth seeing, was made from black lava and symbolizes the zeal and energy of the Catanese. The residents of Catania showed great willpower by rebuilding their city, especially after natural disasters. The beautiful Elephant Fountain, one of the most popular attractions in Catania, was rescued from the rubble after the catastrophic earthquake of 1693. Inspired by Bernini's elephant statue in the Piazza Minerva in Rome, Vaccarini placed the approximately 4 meter high obelisk on the elephant's back, which is covered by a saddle blanket made of white marble.

The islands of the Cyclops, also known as the Faraglioni of Aci Trezza, derive their name from Greek mythology, in particular from the legend of the Cyclops Polyphemus, immortalized in Homer's Odyssey. According to this epic narrative, Polyphemus, blinded by Ulysses, projected imposing rocky boulders against the Greek hero in an attempt to prevent his escape across the sea. These boulders, thanks to the anger of the Cyclops, were transformed into the majestic Faraglioni that we admire today. The Homeric tale unfolds along the suggestive Ionian coast of Aci Trezza, a place already known and frequented by the ancient Greeks. Already in the first verses of the ninth book of the Odyssey, the description of the landscape emerges which is still intact today: "In front of the port an island lies, Lachea nomata, where the rural goats grow in droves."

There are four islands (or stacks) of the Cyclops: Lachea, Faraglione Grande, Faraglione di Mezzo and Faraglione degli Uccelli. The archipelago owes its name to a passage from the Odyssey, when Polyphemus threw stones at Ulysses; they stuck into the ground and gave life to the stacks.

1월 8, 2023, Faraglioni dei Ciclopi
Even after the New Year, when temperatures are between 15 and 20 degrees, many people stroll along the coastal promenade and enjoy the beautiful view with a Sicilian almond or pistachio granita. Only on Saturdays is it a bit quieter. On Sunday, after 10 a.m., the parking lots fill up and around 1 p.m., it’s off to the fish restaurants. For now 10 euros per person, a former fisherman showed us the so-called Faraglioni (rock formations in the sea) in his boat and told us something about it...

7월 31, 2022, Salinelle dei Cappuccini
The Salinelle dei Cappuccini are part of three similar sites in the vicinity of the municipality of Paternò. In each of these sites, volcanic activity in the subsoil generates the release of mud, salt water and gas to the surface. The Salinelle dei Cappuccini owe their name to the presence of a convent of the Capuchin friars towards the end of the 16th century, a convent later abandoned due to the unhealthy air.
