The Cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla is one of the most impressive works of Sicilian Baroque. It features a tower-like façade incorporating the bell tower and a 43-meter-high dome.

The Cathedral of San Giorgio is one of the examples of Sicilian Baroque. Designed by the architect Rosario Gagliardi. Its majestic facade, soaring towards the sky, is characterized by columns, sculptures and an imposing dome built in the 19th century. The interior, with three naves, houses precious works of art, including paintings and frescoes of great value.

Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of Saint George, to whom this church in Ragusa was dedicated, but veneration of him dates back to early Christianity. A martyr identified with George is said to have lived in the third century. The legend of Saint George as the dragon slayer, however, is quite well known and widespread; he is often depicted – in paintings or statues – as the conqueror of the monster, often as a knight on horseback. The feast day of the highly popular Saint George – he is, among other things, the patron saint of the English kingdom – in the calendar of saints is April 23rd.

May 8th is the feast of the two patron saints of Grammichele: St. Michael the Archangel and St. Catherine of Alexandria. During the festival, the simulacra are carried in procession through the streets of the town together with the statue of the Madonna that precedes them.
