Agira is a Sicilian town whose history confuses myth and reality. Thucydides claims that these areas were inhabited by the Cyclops. Thanks to some historical findings it is thought that the first human settlements here date back to more than 30,000 years ago, when Sicily was still connected to the mainland.

The lake is artificial and was formed after the construction of the adjacent dam in 1959 on the Salso river, near Regalbuto. A forest of Eucalyptus trees has also developed all around, which together with the waters of the lake and the surrounding hills, make this place truly special. Here you will also often find horses, cows or sheep in the wild, carefree running along the lake.

The city of Agira enjoys a truly suggestive millenary history, rising on the remains of the ancient Sicilian city Agyrion, the same one that was then colonized by the Greeks upon their arrival in Sicily. The historical and worldly elements of Agira mix perfectly to make this place one of the most beautiful and fascinating in the Sicilian territory.
