On the north side of the lake the path is barely visible. It's best to use the street from the parking lot. We circled the lake counterclockwise and with a dog. Due to poor routing, some gates had to be climbed over, difficult but doable

The Bosco di Santo Pietro oriented nature reserve is a precious protected area established in 1999 and covers 6,559 hectares on a sandy plateau crossed by valleys near the hamlet of Santo Pietro. It represents an important conservation habitat with a rich variety of flora and fauna. The reserve is managed by the State Forestry Company of the Sicilian Region.

Santo Pietro is a fraction of Caltagirone. It is located in the nature reserve of the same name and houses the Sicilian-Norman church of Saints Peter and Paul, dating back to the 19th century.

The Biviere di Gela Nature Reserve, located in the municipality of Gela, Sicily, was established in 1997. Historically mentioned in Pliny the Elder's "Naturalis Historia," it was a brackish marshland transformed into a freshwater lake in the 17th century. It is a wetland of international importance and an important stopover for migratory birds, with over 200 avifauna species. The reserve is home to endemic flora and has a visitor center, trails, and observation huts.
