Scanzano Jonico is located in a flat area along the Ionian coast less than 1 km from the sea in the south-western part of the region; the municipal area is at a height ranging from 0 to 106 m a.s.l., with an average of 21 m a.s.l.; however most of the municipal area, including the main town, is located a few meters above sea level.
