Unfortunately, the parking spaces at the top were very full, but we managed to get one on the second attempt. Parking is free, as is access to the castle grounds. A visit to the castle is worthwhile; there's so much to discover.

A large and notable square in the center of Brescia, Piazzale Arnaldo features at its center the monument to Arnaldo da Brescia, a religious man who died in 1155. The portico of the Mercato dei Grandi was built in the early nineteenth century. Finally, the square is also famous for an attack plotted by far-right militants in 1976: part of the broader strategy of so-called tension, the Piazzale Arnaldo bomb injured eleven people and killed the teacher Bianca Gritti Daller.
