The small sacred monument we encounter on Monte Gottero is perhaps the perfect place for a brief moment of reflection. A few years ago, Christiane Völkel commented on the wonderfully fitting sentence by the Italian poet Francesco Petrarch (who lived in the 14th century), "Everywhere one has heaven above oneself," as follows: "What is the use of prayer? This question moves me (...) I have found for myself the answer and the certainty that when I pray I am with the Lord, or rather, that when I pray he is often noticeably closer to me than usual. Thus, I retain the possibility of pouring out my heart to him (...) This intimacy with him makes me believe in him."

The path that connects Passo della Cappelletta to Monte Gottero passes over Monte Bertola or at the foot of the mountain itself

A climb immersed in the greenery of the Parma Apennines, the Montevacca pass (or Monte Vacà) was tackled by the Giro Donne in 2023. It has no impossible slopes and the asphalt is in excellent condition. On the brow, a plaque commemorates the so-called "beffa di Tasola", a victorious episode of the partisan Resistance in the area.

Monte Gottero rises up to 1639 m above sea level and is part of the eastern Ligurian Apennines.

From the Foce dei Tre Confini it is exactly 223 meters in altitude that you will push, carry and hardly ride your bike. The view from the summit at 1,639 meters is fantastic and the descent that follows to the Passo della Cappelletta (1,086 meters) is a highlight for every mountain biker.

The Cross on the top of Monte Gottero was placed by the inhabitants of Montegroppo (a village on the slopes of the mountain on the Emilian side) in 1933. In 2012 it was restored and straightened by the inhabitants of Montegroppo. From the top of Monte Gottero the view sweeps 360 degrees, from the Tuscan-Emilian ridge to the Apuan Alps, on the Tuscan coast from Piombino to the Gulf of La Spezia, on the Tuscan archipelago and the tip of Corsica, on the Ligurian Riviera up to the border with France, from the Gino Maritime Alps to the Alps on the border between Valle D'Aosta, Piedmont and Lombardy.
