Villa Carlotta is a prestigious historic residence from the late 17th century: the harmonious blend of art and nature attracts an average of over 1,000 visitors per day each year. The complex includes a museum filled with masterpieces (by Canova, Thorvaldsen, Hayez) and an immense 70,000-square-meter botanical garden, famous for its spring blooms of azaleas and rhododendrons.

The Lago di Piano Nature Reserve house houses a small museum and is a good starting point for a hike around the lake. Cyclists can pick up a circular route brochure in Italian and English at home.

For a recent cycle path, it has terrible asphalt :-(

Large sections of the old railway line have been converted into a beautiful cycle path. However, some sections are not paved but rather fine gravel, and along the shores of Lago di Piano, it's more of a walking path than a cycle path. But if you want to take a short break, you can take it easy and enjoy it in a very idyllic setting.

Osteno is a beautiful village at the beginning of the climb to the Alto Valle de Intelvi - worth a visit and if you want to fill up your water bottles you can do so in one of the bars on the Lungo Lago.

The final climb to the top of the pass in Buggiolo, over 4 serpentines, has a gradient of more than 20% - you have to pedal hard again here, but there aren't many meters of altitude left to overcome.

On the descent into Val Cavargna from Passo della Cava there are a few climbs, and only from Cusino onwards is the descent uninterrupted - here the route is beautiful and some wonderfully winding switchbacks provide a lot of enjoyment.
