As a great lover of hunting, King Ferdinand III of Bourbon, owner of the entire Ficuzza Forest and the Royal Hunting Lodge built nearby, had steps and a large ledge carved into this rocky outcrop for hunting. This is the so-called King's Pulpit, a beautiful and evocative sight.

Route on the former Palermo-Burgio railway

There is a fantastic view of the sea towards Termini Imeres or, on the other side, towards Palermo. The stone pyramid that commemorates the presence and heroic deeds of General Giuseppe La Masa and the Garibaldi's Thousand. The monument was built on the initiative of Salvatore Cappello, a follower of Garibaldi. The construction work was carried out by Giavan Battista Filippo Basile, a former architect of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. The pyramid has a triangular base and measures 12 meters on each side. It is 25 meters high and was once crowned with a star of Italy, but later fitted with a lightning rod. On the façade there are various panels and inscriptions that commemorate the military deeds and the expulsion of the Bourbons. The coats of arms of Palermo, Sicily and the House of Savoy can also be seen. The monument was inaugurated on April 4, 1882, but Garibaldi, who was ill in Sicily at the time, was unable to attend the ceremony. However, he visited the monument on April 13 before leaving the island. Garibaldi died in Caprera on June 2 of the same year.

Ficuzza, a hamlet of Corleone, is a small center that clustered around the hunting lodge commissioned by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon in 1803. All the activity of the village takes place around the open space in front of the "palace". From here you can follow various paths - really well maintained - which branch off within the Bosco di Ficuzza Reserve

Along the route of the old railway, a point from which you can enjoy a privileged view of Rocca Busambra, a ridge of over 10 km with steep walls that dominates the Ficuzza Forest and the village of the same name. Too bad that today we could only see rain and low clouds.

Route of the old railway line which allowed you to reach the hinterland, which starting from Palermo crossed the territories of Misilmeri, Villafrati, Godrano, the Ficuzza Forest and continuing its run in a south-west direction, ending in San Carlo di Sicilia. Today converted into a cycle path, it allows you to admire one of the green lungs of Sicily

From this point you arrive directly at Ficuzza (dirt road). From the start after about 500m you will find the path on the left that leads to Pulpito del Re.
