성소는 기적적인 것으로 여겨지는 고대 샘 위에 세워져 있습니다. 1506년 프랑스 통치 하 밀라노의 총독이었던 Charles II d’Amboise는 놀라운 치유를 받은 후 성소 건설을 명령했습니다. 이 건물은 Lazzaretto와 Ca’ Granda와 함께 도시에서 가장 중요한 의료 시설 중 하나가 되었으며, 그들의 평면 계획을 따랐습니다. 고전주의적이고 르네상스적인 광범위한 건축물은 오랫동안 Leonardo와 Bramante의 작품으로 여겨졌지만, 오늘날에는 당시 매우 존경받았던 건축가이자 Duomo di Milano, Santa Maria delle Grazie, Certosa di Pavia에서도 활동했던 Giovanni Antonio Amadeo의 작품으로 여겨집니다. 르네상스 시대의 조화와 우아함에 대한 가장 높은 롬바르드 솔루션을 반영하는 절제되면서도 우아한 건축물이 특징인 이 단지는 아케이드가 있는 안뜰에 16세기와 17세기의 귀중한 프레스코화를 보존하고 있습니다.

Mirasole was one of the farmhouse-abbeys (held by the order of the Humiliated, who dedicated themselves to the cultivation of the fields and the manufacture of woolen cloth with innovative systems for the time: Mirasole possessed the only machines in the surrounding area which made the transformation of the felt wool.

Here, already in the 13th century, a tabernacle dedicated to the Virgin Mary stood next to a source that was said to be miraculous. Even if no miracle is known, over time the fame of this place grew so much that it led the Trivulzio family to build a chapel in 1470 and a real sanctuary a hundred years later. During the plague of 1630 many reported having been saved by the miraculous waters which are still collected today in tubs located at the back of the lower church.

The sanctuary of Santa Maria ad Fontem stands on an ancient natural source believed to be miraculous. The ecclesiastical complex is configured as a stratification of three churches arranged one above the other to which a convent was also joined to house the monks of the order of the Servants of Mary in 1533. In 1799, the sanctuary and the convent became state property and only in 1842 did Princess Cristina Trivulzio of Belgiojoso reopen its doors to the faithful. Philippe Daverio in his article entitled “The happy Madonna of Locate Triulzi” published in the Corriere della sera of 10 November 2013 states that: “What really deserves a visit, ..., is the Marian sanctuary of Santa Maria ad Fontem. … An intriguing fresco is preserved in the sanctuary with a pleasantly smiling Madonna holding up a Baby Jesus with senatorial knowledge”.
