9월 30, 2025, Chiesuolo della Madonna di Loreto

The patronage of this shrine, dedicated to the Madonna, refers to the town of Loreto. This is one of the great and important Marian pilgrimage sites in Europe, along with Lourdes in the French Pyrenees and Fatima in Portugal. Unlike the other two places mentioned, however, Loreto is not known for apparitions of the Mother of God. Here, pilgrims can find something very tangible: Mary's childhood home in Nazareth (Israel). Her parents—not mentioned by name in the biblical writings of the New Testament—are mentioned in apocryphal traditions: Saint Anne and Saint Joachim are thus the grandparents of Jesus Christ (their common feast day in the calendar of saints is July 26). Crusaders likely dismantled the venerated building in Nazareth and brought it to Europe when the era of the Christian kingdoms in the Holy Land came to an end towards the end of the 13th century. But this very sober assumption is countered by a much more interesting legend: According to this, four angels carried out the translation and flew the house over the Mediterranean.

The origins of the village of Nibbiano date back to before the year 1000, a time when it is assumed that the complex was a walled-fortified village with the castle at the center. Some buildings, in fact, still show signs of the slits used to place drawbridges and walkways and the castle tower itself still retains its blocked-up battlements. Until the 14th century it was part of the possessions of the Monastery of San Colombano di Bobbio and in 1335 it passed to the Marquises Malvicini Fontana; in 1765 the Azara family owned the entire village. The castle, built in 1029, is made up of various portions that have been remodeled, demolished and rebuilt over time, especially between the 17th and 18th centuries, until it was transformed into Palazzo Malvicini Fontana with its current conformation. The internal staircase features a 17th-century fresco on the ceiling depicting the coats of arms of the Malvicini Fontana and Dal Verme families.

Known as "il Gotico" to those who live in Piacenza, due to the presence of pointed arches typical of Gothic architecture, this historic building in the city center hosted the poet Francesco Petrarca in 1351. Today it opens to the public only on the occasion of events or temporary exhibitions.

The Chiesuolo della Madonna di Loreto was built in three successive phases: The rural aedicule from the 15th century with an image of the Virgin of Loreto. The ancient oratory in brick from the 17th century, also dedicated to the Madonna di Loreto. The current church, dating from 1781. Architecture: The church has a single nave with a protiro (covered entrance) and is built of exposed brickwork. Inside there are frescoes and an altarpiece with the Madonna di Loreto. Significance: The Chiesuolo is also called ‘Il Chiesuolo’ and is dedicated to the Madonna of Loreto. It is an important historical testimony and a place of devotion. https://www.lombardiabeniculturali.it/architetture/schede/PV240-01108/

The Via Francigena passes through the municipality of Linarolo, which belonged to the Order of the Knights Templar. The passage of pilgrims is confirmed by the existence, in the past, of a hospital for the Romans, mentioned by the Duke of Milan Gian Galeazzo Visconti in his Itinerary for pilgrims on the way to Rome, dated 1400. The woods and the proximity of the river were the ideal setting for nature walks and the re-enactment of an evocative history. The city is located in an area that was very popular in the Middle Ages, where the Strada Regina passed, via San Leonardo and Ospedaletto. The road connected Piacenza with Pavia along the Po and was the continuation of the Via Emilia (Rimini-Piacenza).

The main square of Piacenza with a beautiful Gothic palace. It takes its name from two equestrian statues of two members of the Farnese family, which for a long time dominated the city. The square is also overlooked by much less beautiful buildings, which quite seriously disrupt the view. However, a must-see for anyone visiting Piacenza.

This square used to be the political and commercial center of Piacenza. It owes its name (Piazza Cavelli) to two masterpieces by Francesko mochi, the Baroque equestrian statues** of Alexander and Ranuccio I Farnese. The gigantic structure that towers above the square is the Gotico**. To the left of the square rises the facade of the 13th century Chiesa di san Francesco, an interesting example of Gothic Franciscan architecture.

In the small town of Torre de' Negri, located in the Pavia region, there is a remarkable house called Casa Stranissima. This house seems straight out of a fairytale amusement park, with a picturesque and curious appearance. Unfortunately, little information is available about this mysterious house.

In the countryside between Belgioioso and the river Po, near the hamlet of San Giacomo della Cerreta stands the small church of San Giacomo, a destination for pilgrims because it is located on the ancient route of the Via Francigena, to which its name refers to another of the destinations of medieval pilgrims: Santiago de Compostella in Spain. In the past, near San Giacomo della Cerreta, there was the small settlement of Porcaria, whose name refers to the breeding of pigs, documented from the twelfth century and disappeared in the fourteenth century. The church is of Lombard art from the first half of the fifteenth century, it has a single room, entirely painted with votive paintings related to pilgrimages. In addition to the Madonna, Saint Roch and Saint James are repeatedly depicted, both in the guise of pilgrims, carrying a stick and a saddlebag. In the images of St. James, the characteristic shell that pilgrims collected at Cape Finisterre, on the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, has been added as a sign and reminder of the journey made.

The origin of the castle, originally called Sanctum Miniatum, probably dates back to before the year 1000, as in a document from 1027, concerning the missing church of Santa Mustiola, it is stated that it stood near the fortress. The complex maintains its original appearance with two parallel buildings, but the external appearance has been heavily tampered with. The extensive wall enclosure that surrounded the hill has been lost. The main entrance, previously protected by a drawbridge, can be reached by a staircase of 52 steps.

The exact dating of the current fortress is not known, but it is known that the original castle was destroyed in the 12th century by the armed forces of Federico Barbarossa, and that then, in 1241, King Enzo dismantled the walls after having overwhelmed the Guelph garrison . The castle, of modest dimensions, has an irregular, trapezoidal plan, with the main front facing east and constitutes a singular example of a monobloc building for the Piacenza area. At the end of the shorter side, there is the tower with a sloped base, higher and probably older than the castle, where the location of the missing drawbridge is visible. The wall structure, made up of stone in the lower area and bricks in the upper area, does not necessarily imply two different construction times

Vicobarone, of Roman origins, takes its name from a 'Vicus Varroni' of the imperial era and has been known as "Vici Baruni" since the year 833. Possession of the monastery of Bobbio and considered one of the first organized communities in the area, it expanded thanks to the numerous and important monastic cells of the Bobbio monastery, present in the area. The transformation of the castle dates back to the end of the seventeenth century, carried out by the Marquises Malvicini Fontana who made it an elegant residence with large and well-kept cellars. A final renovation was recently carried out by the current owners who adapted the building to accommodate tourists without altering its architectural characteristics and recovering the thousandth tower in which the "blade well" from the feudal era was located.
