Beautiful place on Lake Biel

A great trail that doesn't promise too much even in wet conditions.

The Weissenstein Bike Trail is the official mountain bike trail on the Weissenstein. It is divided into two sections: From the mountain station, it descends steeply to the mid-station and then further into the valley. As a designated downhill trail, it is only accessible downhill and reserved for bikes. Here, in the upper section, flowing curves over meadows await you before entering the forest. The view all the way to the Alps is best enjoyed before you start the descent.

The Weissenstein Bike Trail is now officially open for use – following a lengthy approval process. Now, it's attracting adrenaline-seekers to enjoy the downhill fun on Solothurn's local mountain. If your hands and legs are a bit sore from the first, upper section, you can briefly leave the trail at the Nesselboden mid-station, safely making room for those behind you. If you let it roll, there are a few more fast-paced curves down into the valley.

The official bike trail starts right next to the Weissenstein cable car mountain station. The cable car will chauffeur you to the summit, saving energy and allowing you to fully concentrate on the descent. Various tickets are available for bike transport, including multi-ride tickets that allow you to ride the trail several times a day. The golden vineyards of Twann immerse you in a landscape of vibrant hues, especially during the autumn months when the vine leaves turn yellow. As you walk along the panoramic trails, the gentle slopes offer breathtaking views of Lake Biel, surrounded in the distance by the picturesque Jura Mountains.

As of the end of September 2024: The trail has now been fully developed into a showcase flow trail. Unfortunately, the previously somewhat more challenging sections have been converted into a rather monotonous tourist flow trail. Almost a bit too "motorway" for me. Although the start at the Nesselnboden intermediate station is still cool with some cool jumps. After that, however, it gets a bit monotonous: steep curve after steep curve on shaped, led Jura gravel. Hardly any stones or roots. I also miss the yellow Jura stone slopes typical of the Jura. But there are now some wet and therefore slippery sections on the flow trail. I liked the trail better before because it was more challenging and varied.
