The origins of this sacred place are lost in the centuries; there is evidence of a chapel on Mount Costa existing as early as the first half of the 15th century. Then came the turning point, with the apparition of the Virgin to a local farmer, a certain Antonio Zampara, a pious 79-year-old, on September 8, 1510.

The Church of San Giorgio Martire is the parish church of Chions, in the province of Pordenone and the Diocese of Concordia-Pordenone. It is part of the parish church of Azzano Decimo. The first mention of a church in Chions dates back to 1239. This building stood in the center of the town. The current one was built and elevated to a parish church in the 15th century and consecrated in 1538. The building was enlarged and modified in the 18th century, and the façade was rebuilt in 1921 based on a design by Antonio Marson. The church was restored in 2004.

A beautiful stretch of road along a heavily used dirt road between vineyards and farmland. The terrain is fine to coarse gravel on a hard, sandy surface, with occasional potholes.

This area is the site of the underground confluence of the Cellina and Meduna rivers. On the surface, a perfectly constructed "guado" (river channel) allows crossing of both riverbeds. The soil of the guado is leveled with a gentle gravel layer. The access roads are concrete/asphalted.
