The Mergoli-Vignanotica trail leads excitingly high along the rocky coast. It connects (via road or difficult, circuitous paths - see section HL: "Access to Zagare Bay") the bay of Mergoli with the bay and beach of Vignanotica. There are frequent, magnificent views, especially to the southwest, of the striking rocky bays of Mergoli and Zagare.

Impressive pebble beach bay beneath high cliffs. No access from the north or south, as the beach ends in both directions at cliffs that reach into the water. Above the cliffs are large hotel complexes (resorts), which are completely fenced in! An elevator leads from the complexes on the cliffs down to the beach. Otherwise, it's extremely difficult to get to the beach or the bay! We didn't understand Vera and Sammy's two tips! We nevertheless reached the bay in February, taking complicated and arduous routes (path to the resort, always following the fences back in a curve to the northwest, descending to the closed path to the bay in the opposite direction to the southeast) and then following paths back up to the road north of the bay. We have documented this complicated route in a separate section: "Access to Zagare Bay." Good luck with "copying" or "finding your own way"!

On the way to the resort, you'll actually only encounter fences (in winter) or, during the season, you'll probably have to pay an entrance fee. The other path, further east from the SP53 road to the bay, is closed at the road level. There are rather arduous ways to reach the bay (path to the resort, always following the fences back in a curve to the northwest, then descending to the closed path to the bay in the opposite direction to the southeast). It can be quite annoying, though!

Very nice walk, very beautiful views of the sea.

In April 2023 I went on a guided orchid excursion in the Gargano National Park, including around the Sacro Monte. At this time of year it is a very productive and interesting terrain for orchid lovers.

From the hiking trail you can see the picturesque Zagare Bay, which is otherwise only accessible for a fee or from 2 hotels.
