The church tower of Saint-Etienne was once an integral part of the fortifications. Easily recognizable by its solid construction and the loopholes on the sides. In the tower passage there is an interesting information board stating that Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his family stopped in Moudon in 1766 on their journey through Switzerland.

Notre-Dame Cathedral, Lausanne The cathedral was not consecrated until 1275 by Emperor Rudolf of Habsburg and Pope Gregory X. Then Jean Cotereel, the third master builder, took over the building site and built the western part, which he equipped with a porch and two towers, one of which carries the bells. The other tower was not completed. The very original painted portal was added to the south façade around 1225-1235. The cathedral was not consecrated until 1275 by Emperor Rudolf of Habsburg and Pope Gregory X. In 1536, the cathedral was significantly altered during the Reformation, when a new space for worship was created in the nave. It was then restored several times in the 18th and 19th centuries, notably under the direction of the famous French architect Eugène-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc. The interior of the cathedral is characterized by an exceptional use of color. This decoration, which dates back to the original building, was covered up during the Reformation but was brought out again at the beginning of the 20th century: the paintings are still visible in the Chapel of Our Lady and on the statues of the painted portal, which is unique in Europe and whose complete restoration was completed in October 2007. The rose window is one of the masterpieces of European church art: its panes illustrate the medieval worldview in which God as creator was at the centre. I recommend the high pass and a stop in Granvaux. The route is through the vineyards, with exceptional views and respect for the farm workers. Little traffic, some steep climbs, but we arrive with enthusiasm. In Granvaux, a "Corto Maltaise" village, take the time to go to the restaurant terraces and enjoy an ice cream: with the view, it has a different flavor!

The Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Lausanne is a Gothic cathedral. Construction of the cathedral began in the 12th century and took almost 100 years. The cathedral was consecrated and dedicated to Our Lady in 1275 by Pope Gregory The cathedral is known for its beautiful stained glass windows and imposing 13th-century portals. It is also home to an impressive organ, where concerts are held regularly. The central column has a circular base with arches and is topped by a ribbed column decorated with acanthus leaves, the city coat of arms and a garland carried by four animal heads. The pillar and column are copies from 1930, while the original pieces are in the Lausanne Historical Museum.

The Lavaux vineyards are a wine region that extends over a slope of almost 14 kilometres along Lake Geneva and covers an area of almost 900 hectares. The region offers a unique view with its steep slopes and terraces supported by stone walls, the huts where the winegrowers stored their tools, with the bonus: the panoramic view of the Alps. Here is a view from Epesses.

7월 8, 2023, Saint-Étienne Reformed Church, Moudon
The first mention of a church dedicated to Saint Stephen in Moudon dates from 1134-1143, although its existence probably dates back further. Located outside the medieval village centered on the hill, it was then the counterpart to the Notre-Dame chapel located at the top of this hill1. Nicknamed “the cathedral of Broye” by the city's inhabitants, it is the largest parish church in the canton of Vaud and one of the best examples of radiant Gothic style in French-speaking Switzerland2. Construction began around 1281, the date of the enclosure flanking the apse wall, and was completed around 1330 with the construction of the last three vaults and the western rose. The bell tower, openworked at its base by the town gate, was erected between the years 1417 and 1436. Chapels were then added to the sides. The simple plan, without transept, evokes a Cistercian influence with its three naves and its rectangular choir, but in elevation the style is radiant Gothic. The vaults are decorated with paintings in 1506-1512. The stalls from 1499-1502 are the work of sculptors Rodolphe Pottu, Peter Vuarser and Mattelin Vuarser. The communion table, Gothic, dates from 1564. The molasse pulpit was built in 1695. The baroque buffet organ from 1764 is by the maker Adrien-Joseph Pottier and the sculptors Joseph Dellion and Charles Puidoux. Finally, the stained glass windows date from 1935-1937 (Ernest Biéler), and 1951-1953 (Charles Clément)2. The church was restored several times, in 1836-1839 by the architect Henri Perregaux3, then again in 1896-1897, in 1934-1935, in 1949-1974 (with interruptions)2. The church is listed as a Swiss cultural property of national importance. Source Wikipedia

First, I remember the reference to Canterbury, a new period for Gothic outside of France. The cathedral, dedicated to Mary as Our Lady (French: Notre Dame), is the successor church to the 6th-century church dedicated to Saint Thyrsus, later named Saint-Maire. The Carolingian building was replaced by an early Romanesque church around 1000. A century and a half later, construction began again. Three construction phases can be distinguished: Under Bishop Landry de Durnes (Landric de Dornac) an ambulatory choir was erected to the east. Archaeologically proven is the outer wall of the ambulatory with round ends of three (probably a total of five) radially adjoining chapels. Capitals found still had Romanesque forms. From around 1190 onwards, under the direction of the so-called Master of Lausanne, extensive reconstruction and new construction took place: the first ambulatory was replaced by the present one, early Gothic with a polygonal ambulatory and only one, still round, axial connecting chapel. To the west, the building grew around the crossing with the lantern tower, the transept and a large part of the nave. Around 1215 the master builder Jean Cotereel began to complete the nave and build the western end of the church Around 1225 to 1235 the portail peint, remarkable for its decorative figures and the preserved polychromy, was added to the southern outer wall of the nave. Finally, in 1275, the Notre-Dame Cathedral was consecrated in the presence of Pope Gregory X and King Rudolf von Habsburg. Source: Wikipedia
