This bunker is one of several in Bettlach. Like the others, it can be viewed inside. Since it's pitch black, a flashlight is recommended. There's also a bunker trail that takes you to two more bunkers in the forest.

Yes, getting through here requires some leg power and steering skills. Depending on the past weather, the wide path can be so muddy that it's almost impassable. BUT right next to it, there's a small singletrack trail that allows for good progress.

The Metzerlen Observatory is the observation station of the former Astronomical Institute of the University of Basel, which was closed at the end of 2007. In order to ensure the continued existence and use of the Metzerlen observatory as an astronomical observatory, the non-profit foundation Regio-Sternwarte Metzerlen was founded in 2011. The seat is in Metzerlen-Mariastein. It is financed by donations from private individuals and various institutions.
