In the heart of Cortemaggiore, the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie is one of the symbolic buildings of the Renaissance village founded in the 15th century by the Pallavicino family. Its monumental structure and location in the main square demonstrate the historical importance of what was once one of the most important centers of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza. A brief stop allows you to discover the orderly urban layout and the intimate atmosphere of the town.

A wonderful stop. Both the church and the baptistery were open, and we were able to enter for a visit. It's worth a detour if you're in the area.

This bridge leads from the dam over the canal to another dam with a good asphalt surface. It looks almost like an old railway line.

One of the rare rest areas along the Po Cycle Path. Located directly between the church and the sports field, it's probably busier in the summer. It served us well for a sheltered rest on a rainy day.

Pizzighettone is an ideal starting point for exploring both the banks of the Adda and for heading to Cremona along the cycle path of the Milan-Cremona canal

If you have a little more time it is certainly worth stopping to visit the very beautiful courtyard, always full of modern sculptures to admire. You can also stop at the bistro to taste excellent food or make small purchases of some typical products of the area. You can continue on gravel or MTB passing behind the courtyard along a small road that will then reconnect to the bank of the Po to observe the fauna and vegetation a little more closely. If wet the ground in some places could be quite muddy.
