The 357th giant bench of the Big Bench Community Project was "born" in Veano di Vigolzone, next to the long tree-lined avenue. From here, visitors can admire the splendid panorama and landscape of the Piacenza hills and valley, while also learning about the history of one of Piacenza's most illustrious citizens: Giulio Alberoni, his College, the artistic heritage it houses, and the Veano estate. Cardinal red is the color of the large bench awaiting travelers, tourists, walkers, cyclists, and the large community of bench-holders in Veano; red like the purple of Giulio Alberoni's cardinal's robe, which stands out in the most famous portrait for which the illustrious Piacenza native is recognized worldwide. It is the second in the Vigolzone area, after the one in Villò, inaugurated in 2022. https://www.ilpiacenza.it/attualita/installata-una-panchina-gigante-a-veano.html © IlPiacenza

The descent that begins on the ridge that separates the Trebbia Valley from the Luretta Valley ends in Travo. The descent is very panoramic, with a beautiful view of the characteristic crest of Pietra Parcellara, also known as the Matterhorn of the Trebbia Valley, and Pietra Perduca. The beauty and uniqueness of the Pietre is given by the gap they show with respect to the context that surrounds them. If Pietra Perduca and Parcellara were in the Alps, they probably would not attract attention. Instead, they emerge in the middle of an Apennine landscape of gentle hills. The Pietre have a dominant position because while the surrounding soft formations were dismantled by erosive agents, they resisted thanks to the resistance of their rocks. A process known as differential erosion. Pietra Parcellara and Pietra Perduca are two fragments of oceanic crust trapped in the middle of clay and sandstone. It is precisely the contrast between the gently sloping slopes that define the Emilian Apennines and the decidedly Alpine appearance of the Pietre that makes these places so interesting.

Monticello Castle was first mentioned in 1372, when it was occupied by troops loyal to the Pope during an anti-Visconti uprising. Located on the ridge that divides Val Trebbia and Val Luretta, Monticello Castle represents a pleasant and harmonious whole from a landscape point of view with the surrounding hilly environment typical of the lower Piacenza Apennines (540 meters above sea level). The structure has an irregular quadrangular plan, but currently shows the clearly visible signs of the various and heterogeneous architectural modifications and additions undergone over the centuries. The front of the castle is on the eastern side, which is dominated by the mass of the portal, equipped in ancient times with a drawbridge; a sturdy square tower rises to the left of the entrance to guard the south side, while two round turrets are placed to protect the north side. The interior develops around two courtyards of different proportions, facing the main buildings, used as homes. All around the fortress, structures of an evidently agricultural nature have arisen in more recent times, which have little to do with the original structure and which emphasize its hybrid aspect, but at the same time soften its forms. The castle is currently used as the headquarters of a local agricultural company, but it is worth noting the stark contrast between the unused parts of the building, almost at risk of collapse in some places, and the inhabited parts, which are better preserved.

The presence of a castle in Vigolzonum or Vigolizonum seems to date back to 1095. The layout of the castle, which combines the needs of a good defense with the comforts of a stately home, is developed on a rectangular plan with two towers arranged at opposite corners. The largest, to the north-west, also served as a keep: with a square base and adorned with swallowtail battlements, it towered above the drawbridge by about 40 metres. Of the imposing building, the two ancient-looking towers stand out where the inscription is located which, welcoming guests, reports news on the foundation of the castle
