The church of San Giovanni Battista di Calamosco was founded in the 11th century in the suburban locality of the same name. In the locality there were two other churches: Santa Maria and San Sisto which were later deconsecrated and transformed into private homes. Towards the middle of the sixteenth century, San Giovanni was in a serious state of abandonment which was followed by further damage caused by a fire in the early eighteenth century. It was then rebuilt in the years 1720-30 with the addition of a bell tower designed by Antonio Gamberini. From 1623 it passed under the control of the chief suburban church of Sant'Egidio. From 1916 it became an independent parish and pieve with jurisdiction over San Niccolò di Villola and San Donino. In 1925 it was remodeled to a design by Collamarini. Today territorially it is part of the S. Donato district and is located precisely between the localities of San Sisto and via San Donato . The interior of the church is Baroque and is made up of seven altars: on the main one is depicted St. John the Baptist attributed to Franceschini; on the second altar (entering on the right) there is a beautiful picture of San Antonio da Padova; in the third a copy of Correggio's Madonna della Scodella; in the first altar on the left there is a stucco crucifix; in the following altar is represented S.Vincenzo Ferretti by Ubaldo Gandolfi; on the baptistery a statue by Cesarino Vincenzi from the first half of the twentieth century. On the bell tower there are two plaques in memory of the fallen of the first and second world wars.
