A detour is currently signposted here towards Ensdorf.

Very close by is the Hotel Fährhaus on the one-way street "Zur alten Fähre" (signposted from the bridge). It offers a very quiet and affordable stay with free parking and very friendly hosts. From there, the best way to reach Saarbrücken city center (approx. 6 km) is to cross this bridge and take the Saar Cycle Path on the left bank of the Saar River (car-free). On the right bank, the route is a bit longer and more circuitous, going around the marina.

⚙️ Saarbrücken Ship Lock – Technology in Motion on the River In the heart of Saarbrücken lies the imposing ship lock – an impressive structure that is still in active use today. When large cargo ships are slowly lowered or raised here, a fascinating interplay of water, technology, and patience takes place. The spectacle is particularly well-observed from the Saar Cycle Path. 🚢 Tip: If you're lucky, you might even witness a lock being opened live – just stop for a moment, marvel, and let the rhythm of the river wash over you.

🌅 Saar Promenade Saarbrücken – Strolling between Water and City The Saar Promenade runs along the river through the heart of Saarbrücken – between the State Theater, the Old Town Hall, and the Schlossufer (Castle Embankment). With wide paths, benches, modern lighting, and regular views of the water, it's a popular place for walking, cycling, or simply taking a breather in the heart of the city. ☕ Tip: If you prefer a relaxed atmosphere, start your day here with a coffee on the riverbank or enjoy the sunset overlooking the shimmering water – it doesn't get much more urban than this.

Between the State Theater and the East Harbor, a diverse landscape of water, city, and nature opens up. 🏙️ Tip: The route is particularly atmospheric in the early evening, when the light softens and the buildings are reflected in the Saar – perfect for a spontaneous photo stop or a relaxing end to a long bike ride.
