자르란트 자전거길(SLR)의 이 구간은 가장 평탄하여 라이딩하기 가장 쉬운 구간입니다. 하지만 고속도로와 나란히 이어지기 때문에 가장 시끄럽고 경관도 덜 매력적입니다. 따라서 이 구간만 이용하는 경우 자르란트나 전체 자전거길의 성격을 대표하는 인상을 얻기 어렵습니다. 다른 구간과 결합해야만 자르란트 자전거길의 풍경 다양성과 다채로운 경로를 느낄 수 있습니다.

The spectacle is particularly well-observed from the Saar Cycle Path. 🚢 Tip: If you're lucky, you might even witness a lock being opened live – just stop for a moment, marvel, and let the rhythm of the river wash over you.

🏠 Malstatt Lock Keeper's House – A Historic Witness on the Banks of the Saar This charming brick house stands directly on the Saar Cycle Path in Saarbrücken-Malstatt – once the home of the lock keeper. Today it's disused, but it still stands as a striking focal point between the cycle path, the water, and industrial history. If you look closely, you'll discover traces of the time when ships were manually guided through the lock here every day. ⚓ Tip: This spot is perfect for a short break with a historical flair – and offers interesting photo opportunities with a nostalgic touch, especially in the early evening hours.

🚴 Saar Cycle Path at Schanzenberg – Natural Idyll between Rock and River At Schanzenberg, the Saar Cycle Path reveals its most charming side: On a flat course, the path winds directly between the Saar River and the wooded slopes of Schanzenberg. Calm waters to the left, rugged cliffs and dense deciduous forest to the right – a route perfect for relaxing miles with a view. 🪨 Tip: If you enjoy photography, you should come here at sunset – the interplay of light, shadow, and water creates truly special moments.

The Saar lock in Saarbrücken-Malstatt was put into operation in 1869. The old lock was completed in 1863 and extended in 1895. The current lock is part of a larger barrage with a weir and hydroelectric power plant.
