6월 15, 2025, Chiesa di San Martino (Busca)
Beautiful old church, in a very panoramic position on the Cuneo plain. The climbs to get there have ramps at the limit of legality, but it is worth it.

3월 30, 2025, View of Costigliole Saluzzo from the Bridge
From the bridge over the Varaita torrent, just outside the heart of Costigliole Saluzzo, a suggestive panorama opens up that embraces the village perched on the hill and the waters of the torrent that flow at its feet. From this privileged position, you can admire the houses with their red tile roofs, the streets that climb towards the historic center and, on clear days, the majestic backdrop of the Alps. The sound of the flowing water and the view of the surrounding nature make this place perfect for a panoramic stop, immersing yourself in the tranquility of the Piedmont countryside.

Busca is today a city of about 10,000 inhabitants, consisting of a historic center, configured in the space of the ancient walls, and the numerous surrounding hamlets. It is located in a fortunate geographical position, at the foot of the morainic hill that surrounds it like an amphitheater and that, sheltering it from cold winds, gives it a mild climate appreciated since ancient times.

3월 30, 2025, Casa Bart | Bike & Outdoor Hospitality
Casa BART is a bike hotel ideal for lovers of outdoor holidays. Villar San Costanzo, where it is located, is a strategic starting point for exploring the surrounding area by bike, the Maira, Varaita and Grana valleys, and for riding the Eurovelo 8. The area offers routes suitable for different disciplines, from gravel to road cycling and mountain biking, with options ranging from simple excursions to challenging multi-day tours. The owners, Luca and Augusta, cycling enthusiasts, offer their guests numerous specialized services, including a bike room, workshop, bike rental, washing area, laundry, gym, massages and the possibility of requesting snacks and dinners. At Casa BART you can truly breathe the love for two wheels. If Augusta expresses her creativity in the kitchen, Luca is an excellent Bike Manager, who can provide simple advice to the search and sharing of tracks that lead as much as possible to pedaling on secondary roads, away from heavy traffic, up to the actual accompaniment, being a Cycle and Hiking Guide of the Piedmont Region. In the surrounding area you can discover the blossoming of peach and apple trees in the Saluzzo area, the ancient villages of Roccabruna, the climbs of the Giro d'Italia and the paths of Monte Pagliano. Casa BART is also a stop on the Percorsi Occitani, a circular trek in the Maira Valley.

Busca is a town at the foot of the morainic hills between the Maira and Varaita valleys. Due to its location, it boasts a mild climate that has been appreciated since ancient times. The name appears for the first time in a document dating back to 1123. The town develops around the ancient historic center surrounded by walls, partly still visible.

3월 30, 2025, Ponte del Diavolo di Dronero
The Devil's Bridge of Dronero, built in 1428 over the Maira torrent, is a remarkable example of medieval civil engineering. This bridge has three arches of different sizes and is slightly curved, with lateral parapets surmounted by swallow-tailed Ghibelline battlements. Originally, on the pillar of the smaller arch towards the centre of Dronero, there was a drawbridge, whose iron hinge was found under the road surface; this was removed in 1810 when the entrance passage was widened and the Ghibelline battlements were restored. The name "Devil's Bridge" comes from a local legend: it is said that, to overcome the difficulties in building the bridge, the inhabitants made a pact with the devil, promising him the soul of the first person to cross it. However, the inhabitants tricked the devil by having a stray dog cross first, infuriating the devil who abandoned the bridge. Today, the bridge is a symbol of Dronero and offers a panoramic view of the town, representing an unmissable stop for those visiting the Maira Valley.

I climbed to Montemale from Dronero. It is a 3.5 km climb with an average gradient of 8% and more than 1 km with a gradient of 9%. It is a demanding climb, on a wide road in perfect condition. The best thing about the climb is that you gain height over the valley and the village... and the views on clear, bright days cheer you up.

The Fauniera refuge is located just 3 km from the top of the pass, going up the Val Grana slope (Pradleves), and right next to the Colle Esischie. It coincides with a section of the pass where the slope drops to 7% after overcoming several kilometers from the Santuario di San Magno where the gradient does not fall below 9%. The refuge is very pleasant as you can read in the reviews on Google. Without a doubt, it is the best refuge on this side.

I couldn't take any photos of the bridge because the slopes in this area are very steep and I was concentrating on enjoying the climb. I looked at the bridge and thought it was a bucolic place and a good place to take a good photo.

9월 15, 2024, Campomolino
This is the village where the hard part of the climb to Colle della Fauniera really begins. Up to here, from Pradleves, the climb is very easy, crossing the narrow valley with the river at the side. When you reach Campolino, there are several difficult horseshoe-shaped climbs to reach the village and gain height over the valley. The Fauniera begins and all you have to do is suffer... and enjoy!!!
