Marcandrews

9월 21, 2025, Santuario Madonna dei Monti

In a splendid panoramic location, built of Langa stone, it is notable for the Baroque-style decoration of its brick façade. The building's design is attributed to Francesco Gallo, who worked in the Cuneo and Mondovì areas in the first half of the 18th century. The interior retains no decoration. The altar is noteworthy, the last vestige of the pre-existing building. This is evidenced by the fresco depicting the Madonna enthroned breastfeeding the Child, with Saint George, patron saint of Niella Belbo, at her side, dating to the late 15th century. Gottasecca is a beautiful village located on the ridge that divides the Bormida Valley from the Uzzone Valley. It can be reached with five, very pleasant km from Camerana, with average gradients of 8%, the climb from the Uzzone Valley is more challenging, because the first km after the Valle village exceed double figures. In any case, once you arrive, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Bormida Valley and the surrounding hills. The area between Gottasecca and Prunetto is also crossed by some pleasant MTB itineraries (signposted "MountainBrick" mainly on dirt/forest roads and difficulty from S1 to S3 (check first because years ago some sections were obstructed by fallen trees due to strong winds)

Visible from afar, this shrine dominates a suggestive landscape of vineyards and rolling hills, a crossing point between the Alta Langa and the most famous Langa, that of the vineyards. The climb from Bastia Mondovì is gradual and never extreme, the landscape that gradually widens then repays the efforts. Bring water supplies because there is none to be found, furthermore the exposure of the road is almost all to the South. The visit to the shrine repays the small detour necessary to reach it.

Ceva is an ancient medieval village located in the province of Cuneo. The city is located in the small wedge obtained from the Tanaro river and the Cevetta stream. The historic center of Ceva is characterized by arcaded streets, loggias and vaults that lead to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and the Church of the Assunta. The city is famous for the Mushroom Exhibition held in September and for the Festival of Colors and Flavors of the Valleys held in June.

I have been able to find out very little about this church: it is known that it was placed to watch over an ancient crossroads of paths, used in ancient times to trade salt (on the other hand, salt is mentioned in many local toponyms, just mention the town of Sale Langhe). Until a few years ago, however, it was a ruin, overgrown with climbing plants, recently a group of willing people rearranged it, redoing the roof, cleaning up the walls and also highlighting the apse which, in addition to the altar, also kept a fresco of which unfortunately few traces remain. Transit point of the cart track which from the entrance to the reserve continues towards Camerana (slight uphill then downhill, the ancient salt road), and arrival point of the "Sentiero del Menhir" which instead crosses the reserve, another beautiful trail for MTB . Recommended for a lunch stop, unfortunately there is no water.

The construction of the Shrine of St. Bernard dates back to the period 1947/1951. It was built on the highest hill in the area where, at that time, an elementary school and a small chapel stood. The work was financed with contributions from various organizations but above all thanks to the collaboration of many volunteers. In the churchyard, in the ossuary the bodies of eight partisans are collected and on the tombstones of the path of the Shrine are carved the names of about a thousand fallen in the struggle for liberation who, from September 1943 to April 1945 lost their lives in the Casotto valleys, Corsaglia, Ellero and in all the Langhe.

The sanctuary, of origin prior to 1400, is built in Baroque style with materials from the surroundings (Langa stone). Despite being a rather bare construction (even the interior is devoid of decorations), it is notable for its splendid panoramic position, clearly visible from afar both coming from Mombarcaro and climbing from Niella Belbo. It deserves a stop, both to enjoy the 360 ° panorama (in good light conditions both the Maritime Alps are visible and, to the north, good portions of the Alps), and to enjoy the shade guaranteed by leafy trees. The only drawback, there are no fountains!

The construction of the Partisan Memorial took place between 1947 and 1951. Situated in a splendid panoramic position, it offers a breathtaking view of the entire Alpine arc dominated by Monviso and the Langhe. Below the wide and sinuous bends of the Tanaro are clearly visible. Recommended on clear days.

The construction of the Memorial dates back to between 1947 and 1951 and was inaugurated by the Head of Government Alcide De Gasperi, in the presence of numerous authorities from all over Italy. It was built on the highest hill in the area where, at that time, an elementary school and a small chapel stood. The bodies of eight partisans are collected in the ossuary and the names of about a thousand who died in the liberation struggle are carved on the tombstones in the driveway. It is slightly uphill but once you get to the top you dominate the whole landscape below, enjoying an exceptional view of the Langa which still remains rural.

The gravel of the avenue gives off a white that recalls purity and once you get to the top you dominate the whole landscape below. We are in San Bernardo, the hill of Bastia, where the Partisan Memorial stands, where the name of the fallen is engraved on the white plaques on the large tree-lined avenue. It is one of the best observation points in the entire Langa and from there you can look east over the hills of Cigliè and Rocca Cigliè. They are small villages, where the ancient agricultural tradition is still almost intact. An authenticity made up of little things, where you can still see the sign of the Middle Ages: the fortresses, the towers, the defenses of a community that inevitably had to find a way to protect itself. The Bastia Memorial was built between 1947 and 1951. In the churchyard, in the ossuary, the bodies of eight partisans are collected in memory of the fallen of the 1st Alpine Division Group. It is part of a cross-border ecomuseum network "La Memoria della Alpi", part of an interregional project in Italy, France and Switzerland. (from Unione Monregalese)
