This is the first stage of the Treasury of the Rhine Trail (Bolognese Apennines). Vergato - Grizzana - Stage dedicated to the artists, Ontani (Vergato), Giorgio Morandi (Grizzana), and Morandi. The Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Cosolazione, in Montovolo, dates back to the 12th century. It stands 912 meters above sea level, over a church dating back to before the year 1000, itself built on a pagan temple. Above the altar is a wooden sculpture of the Blessed Virgin and Child, dating back to the 15th century. Getting there is a very challenging climb.
