I'm currently on the cycling side, but an Allgäu hiker should have climbed the Grünten, even though it's quite steep. The mountain is still very popular.

I love the route from Rettenberg via Vorderburg to the Rottach reservoir, at least during the week. Don't ask me how busy it is on weekends; I live in Kempten and only ride routes like this during the week.

Great kiosk with cool hosts. It's a shame there's a steep hill from Kempten to get there. I've been here several times. While I was having my Schupfnudeln (scrambled dumplings), the host asked me if I wanted them without bacon. Another good thing: they've largely rebuilt the kiosk. I've been during the week so far, and I imagine it's busy on weekends, even though this is a quiet corner of the Allgäu. The route around the lake is gorgeous.

I live in Kempten and have been here several times, mainly because it's relatively quiet by Allgäu standards. Describing everything would be beyond my capabilities, so I'll spare you the many pictures. Just come for yourself; it's worth it.

The Zötler Brewery Rettberg, better known as Zötler Beer, is a traditional brewery in the Allgäu. The private Zötler brewery has a history spanning centuries and is considered one of the oldest breweries in the world. A document documents the purchase of a piece of land by the innkeeper Conrat Bach. Since a tavern owner in the Middle Ages almost always brewed his own beer, it is reasonable to assume that he was the first brewer in Rettenberg and that this brewery later became today's Zötler brewery. The Zötler family runs the company and combines tradition and innovation in beer production. The Zötler brewery offers tours where visitors can gain an insight into the art of brewing beer. In addition, the brewery is closely linked to the regional gastronomy and its beers are an integral part of Allgäu cuisine. So there are opportunities to drink a Zötler!
