9월 17, 2024, Lago di San Domenico
Artificial lake in the municipality of Villalago, the San Domenico basin has as its main tributary the Sagittario river, which is also the waterway that emerges from the dam. Not far from this point stands the hermitage of San Domenico.

Beautiful artificial body of water near Villalago, less known than nearby Lake Scanno, but still worth a visit.

The Gorges of Sagittario are located between Anversa degli Abruzzi and Scanno. Coming from Antwerp the road is slightly but sweet and steady uphill. About halfway to our right the Lake of San Domenico appears in all its beauty, which with its turquoise waters invites us to a stop along its banks.

Set among the rocks of the narrow Sagittario Gorges, the San Domenico Lake opens up, an artificial basin built in 1929 with the construction of the dam of the same name. Due to its green waters, the emerald lake is fed by the Sagittario river and has always been a refuge for various animal species. The area, over 1000 years ago, was favored by San Domenico Abate who lived in the most inaccessible environments such as caves and ravines: places with mystical suggestions due to the saint's miracles. The place has a strong link with history through the birth of the nearby medieval village of Villalago and the creation of the monastery of San Pietro in Lacu, now disappeared, with nature through the dense woods, the incessant flow of water, the rocky ridges and with the fauna that densely populate the whole area.

Going up the Sagittario river to its sources, after having traveled a few kilometers of dense gorges and continuing beyond the village of Villalago, Lake Scanno opens up to view, a basin of natural origins formed over 3000 years ago due to a large landslide detached from Mount Genzana which blocked the flow of the river Tasso. Located at 922 meters above sea level , is also known for its characteristic heart-shaped conformation that can be admired from the top of its surrounding mountains. The humidity and the coolness of the clear waters of the lake mix with the intense scent of the mountain. A place of vacation and passage, its waters reflected poets, artists, architects, actors, illustrious men, simple people attracted by the enchanted lake "of love".

7월 17, 2020, Castello Cantelmo
Conceived as one of the main fortresses in the Peligna valley, the building dates back to the 11th century, built by the Normans and dependent on the Valvense diocese. In the following century it was owned by Oddone di Pettorano, and later after the Swabians, the Angevins and Cantelos were the owners, with the marriage of Amile d'Agoult with Giovanna di Odorisio da Ponte. Damaged by the earthquake of 1706, the castle was half transformed into a civil residence of the owners, who ceded it to the municipality in 1977. The Castle has an irregular circular plan, because half of the semicircle was used for the construction of civil houses. Normally the pentagonal control tower remains, with two smaller towers in the perimeter, located to the south west and north west. The defensive construction system is called "sack", with external facing in rough-hewn stone and lime mortar. The castle was decorated with noble coats of arms and original furniture, but everything was sold or plundered in the 1900s, given the abandonment until today's recovery.
