Anyone cycling through Hohenberg will come across a site steeped in history: This was once the site of the "Great Hammer," a major ironworks that remained in operation until the 20th century. As recently as 1930, two steel stretching hammers were still working for the Furthof file factory, and by 1835, 14 workers were employed here. Heavy tools, anvils, and ship anchors were manufactured – an early industrial center of the region. The present memorial was erected between 1965 and 1966 and commemorates the beginnings of the iron industry in Hohenberg. A worthwhile stop for cyclists who want to combine technological history with nature.

Old Hammer in Hohenberg – Origin of the Iron Industry. The "Großer Hammer" building, an important site of regional iron processing, once stood on this site. As recently as 1930, two steel stretching hammers were still in operation here for the Furthof file factory. As early as 1835, 14 workers were employed, manufacturing, among other things, ship anchors, anvils, and heavy tools. Thoman and Cathrina Schwaiger are listed as owners in the land register of the Hohenberg estate. The facility, built between 1965 and 1966, commemorates the beginnings of the iron industry in Hohenberg and preserves the memory of this formative part of local economic history. A worthwhile stop for anyone who wants to experience a piece of industrial history on a bike tour.

The Hohenberg small hydropower plant, also known as the Thorhof power plant, is located on the Unrecht Traisen River in the Lower Austrian municipality of Hohenberg and has been in operation since 1913. With a capacity of approximately 250 kilowatts, the plant generates around 1,820 megawatt hours of electricity annually, sufficient to supply more than 500 households. The plant is a typical diversion power plant and exemplifies sustainable electricity generation using small hydropower in rural regions. As part of modern ecological measures, a 35-meter-long fish pass was built to restore the river's permeability and enable the natural migration of fish species such as brown trout, rainbow trout, and bullhead. The Hohenberg power plant thus combines historic energy generation with contemporary environmental protection.
