Beautiful rest area with a view of the lake

Built in 1612 under Landgrave Moritz I and burned down in October 1923, the former Herrenmühle (a mill for men) is now a hydroelectric power plant and is family-owned. The lock and weir also date back to the time when the Fulda River was developed into a shipping route between Kassel and Bad Hersfeld under Moritz I. Unfortunately, the lock is no longer operational, unlike the ones further downstream.

The old town of Rotenburg an der Fulda is one of the best-preserved half-timbered towns in Germany. It lies on the German Fairy Tale Route and is surrounded by a well-preserved city wall with towers.

The church in Weiterode, built in the 13th century, of which the choir tower is the oldest part, has undergone several renovations over the years. Along with the roof reconstruction, the ceiling was decorated with paintings in the Peasant Baroque style. The church is one of the Peasant Baroque churches found in the region and is therefore well worth a visit. There's shade here in the afternoon (June). It's quite pleasant in hot weather.

The stone house—a three-story solid building with a half-timbered gable—opposite the old bridge on the Neustadt side likely served to secure the crossing over the Fulda River in the Middle Ages. From 1381 to 1593, it was the seat of the canons' chapter and the collegiate school. Afterward, it was the residence of a servant of the Landgrave.
