In the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park, a few kilometers from Torre Sansanello, in the countryside of Poggiorsini, there is a place that seems out of time and space: the Rocca del Garagnone. In a landscape dominated by stone, daughter of the limestone earth, and of woods that alternate with an arid steppe, the ruins of an ancient castle rise on top of the hill.

An advanced site that defended the road between Castel del Monte and Gravina, between the imperial castles of Puglia and Basilicata ”. Thus was described, in 1897, by the French scholar and traveler E.Bertaux, the Rocca del Garagnone, a monument built in the upper Murgia between the Norman and Swabian times, currently in the territory of Poggiorsini.

Defensive structure immersed in the Alta Murgia Park, used in ancient times for control and sightings along the Appian Way, of which only a few ruins remain today. To reach the site it is necessary to follow the paths, sometimes rough, that surround it. Therefore, the use of Mtb or Gravel is recommended.
