Everything around you is emphasized while gestures such as pedaling, walking, breathing are no longer perceived. The Serra del Mito takes over and leads to this state of mind... https://www.salentobiketrail.com/il-supposto-della-ghianda/

Public olive grove, an oasis of peace in a silent natural environment. Well maintained, some volunteers take care of its maintenance, guaranteed relaxation!

Included in the collection Salento Parco dei Paduli www.komoot.com/it-it/collection/2053951/-il-parco-dei-paduli - Beautiful to cycle along these dirt roads because they are immersed in the silence of the olive groves. The idea of exploiting the territory for educational purposes is good. In my opinion it greatly enhances it. Valuing the Paduli through associations is visionary. The public olive grove is an expression of their commitment together with the tracks carefully scattered throughout the park. All this helps to understand how close the inhabitants are to the place.

Posted in Salento Fortifications collection https://www.komoot.it/collection/1396951/-salento-fortificazioni - The most ancient structure of the current Aragonese castle dates back, in all probability, to the XII-XIII century and was built on the remains of the Byzantine fortress. In the second half of the 13th century, Charles I of Anjou defines it as a fortress of strategic importance for the defense of the kingdom. The castle, numbered together with the fortresses of Ostuni, Taranto, Ugento and Torremaggiore, is considered of national importance and considered among the most functional, combining together natural defenses and military architecture [source: https://it.m.wikipedia.org / wiki / Castello_di_Castro]

The Sasso tower stands proud on the Otranto canal. We must earn the passage. It involves cycling through a treacherous path between sharp boulders and vegetation. I recommend getting off the pedals and pushing the bike if you are not used to these situations, you will not regret it and the reward is guaranteed.

The Church of Our Lady of Constantinople or better known locally as the Church of the Devils, thanks to an ancient name that mentions the fact that the devil told the citizens of Tricase to build the church in one night otherwise he would have sent them to the underworld ... Furthermore, it is said that the missing bell of the adjoining bell tower, again for another ancient legend, was dismantled and transported to the bottom of the Canale del Rio and sometimes it can be heard retouched when there are currents or with rough sea ... Currently seat of local socio-cultural events in the area in front and which in recent times thanks to conservative restructuring interventions can be admired in the state in which it is presented

A splendid municipal sheep track immersed in the greenery of the Vallonee oaks that from the church of the Devils allows us to go towards the Serra del Mito, Torre del Sasso. Passing this path really allows us to take a leap into the centuries when the roads were beaten only and only by the furrows of carts, by the trampling of mules and peasants, surrounded by dry stone walls and beautiful countryside. Here the only audible noises are the song of cicadas, the chirping of birds and the blowing of the wind ... Abandoned for decades and under meters of vegetation that made it invisible to all, it was found in 2017 by the ASD MTB Tricase. From 2020 it officially became part of the paths protected by the Park Authority naming it with the code "PNR COL F20 Tratturo Corte Guti".

Once a fortress of strategic importance for the defense of the coast, the Castle of Castro tells the glories of a glorious past. Built in the XVI century on a pre-existing structures (almost certainly on the remains of a Byzantine building used to defense of the fortified Roman village), it's still possible to see a circular tower, a lanceolate bastion, the "Torre del Cavaliere" and some sections of curtain walls. Inside persists a large rectangular courtyard, that once housed the handicrafts and agricultural products that were marketed throughout the Mediterranean. Since 1780 the castle fell into a state of disrepair. After about two centuries of neglect, three distinct architectural recovery interventions were finally carried out over the last twenty years.

Torre del Sasso, located on the crest of the Serra del Mito at 116 meters above sea level, was part of a system of towers built along the entire coast of Salento, equipped with cannons, in sight of each other; so that, in case of raids by the Turks or pirates, the populations inside could be properly warned. The tower, whose existence is ascertained in 1584, is partially destroyed. To protect it, the various local associations are continually seeking support for the administrations for recovery.
