Tiriolo is a charming village in Calabria, southern Italy, known as the "place between two seas." It is picturesquely situated on a hill overlooking the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Tiriolo boasts ancient roots, a rich history, traditional craftsmanship, and a welcoming, authentic atmosphere.

Poorly maintained but still looks old

The castle is not particularly maintained and cared for but also for this reason it retains a great charm.

The Norman-Swabian Castle of Nicastro, an ancient medieval fortress built by the Byzantines or Normans, dominates the historic district of San Teodoro in Lamezia Terme. Despite the damage caused by the earthquake of 1638, the castle retains the traces of four towers, bastions and a wall. Its history is linked to the tragic imprisonment of Henry VII, the rebellious son of Frederick II. Today, it offers a fascinating insight into Calabria's medieval history.

From here, near the narrowest point of the Italian peninsula, you can see the two Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas; it is said that this was the land of the Phaeacians told in the Odyssey; a monument is dedicated to Ulysses. The almond granita at the Mauro pastry bar is highly recommended

Tiriolo is the land of two seas: from the top of the town, from the Castle Park, you can clearly see the boundary of the Calabrian emerged lands that winds between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. A unique emotion! But Tiriolo is also a center rich in history and traditions where some of the best Calabrian artisans live: potters like Corrado Rotundo, weavers like Mirella Leone and luthiers like Tommaso Leone. The Regional Costume Museum and the Antiquarium are very interesting, as well as the magnificent historical centre.

Unfortunately, for many years the bridge has been blocked with concrete barriers that prevent the passage of cars and agricultural vehicles. By bike you can still pass by going around the obstacle. Since 2019, the locals have been mobilizing for its reopening and making it safe.
